I couldn't think of anything but the feeling of Sutton's lips on mine, while her body is pressed against me. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, and it seemed like she was having the same trouble as me. Before I knew it, Eli was grabbing us and ushering us back into the car. Blake gave Dylan a lengthy kiss goodnight on her way out the door and her lips were still swollen by the time she sat in the seat next to me.
"Nothing like a nice and long good-night kiss, is there Dylan?" Eli asked from the driver's seat with a grin. Dylan still seemed to be in la la land but shook her head when his words actually registered and just stayed quiet and blushed a deep crimson.
I giggled at my best friend and she looked me in the eyes and whispered something that I didn't hear. I knitted my eyebrows together asking what she said and she whispered something again and I still didn't hear it. "Oh my God, you are so deaf sometimes! Blake just told me he loves me!" Dylan practically shouted as she was frustrated with my lack of hearing.
Cory, Eli, and Addy all started cat-calling and hollering at the top of their lungs, while Dylan looks absolutely mortified that she said that out loud. I just smiled back, as it was no surprise to me from the way Blake looks at Dylan while she isn't paying attention. I'm just thankful everything is going well for my best friend, she deserves to be happy.
Sutton is sitting to my left as I am always designated the middle seat because of how tiny I am. I notice the Sutton doesn't say much about Dyl's outburst, but she just stares right at me. I look back into the forest green orbs and try to decipher what she is thinking. Before I know it, she grabs my hand, interlaces our fingers and sets them in her lap. We both turn our heads away from each other, smiling like idiots. Sutton softly brushes her thumb over the back of my hand and I can feel the goosebumps rising.
Sutton then turns to me and asks, "Are you cold? I brought a jacket if you want it."
I simply shook my head and lean in to whisper in her ear, "I'm not cold, it's you." Sutton's eyes went wide and her lips parted. Now, I'm not entirely sure where that courage came from, but, damn am I smooth for being a rookie! Sutton glanced to my lips very quickly before someone cleared their throat in the car.
"If ya'll don't stop giving each other that look, you're gonna be fogging up all the windows and Eli won't be able to see out the windshield. Cool down you two!" Cory's chastisement made me look down embarrassed, but I never let go of Sutton's hand. Dylan just sits back and watching the whole show unfold right next to her, lucky to pass the attention off of her.
After about five minutes, Eli pulls up to Addy's house and we all tumble out of the car, some more so than others. All the encounters I have had with Sutton tonight has sobered me right up, and I am thinking it did the same to her.
Addy unlocks the house with quite a bit a difficulty, and we all trudge to her room. "Alright guys, I have room for one more in my bed, there is a guest room down the hall that has two queen size beds for the rest of you. Goodnight guys!" Addy goes straight to her bed and passes out shortly after.
Eli rubs his eyes and says, "I'll sleep with Addy, just to make sure she doesn't puke on herself. I will see you guys in the morning." And with that, the rest of us grab our clothes to sleep in and take turns doing our nightly routines. Dylan and Cory finish first and head into the room first, leaving Sutton and I to finish up.
I round the corner and see Dylan under the covers in one bed with Cory hopping in on the other side. I just assumed I would be sleeping in the same bed as Dylan because she was my friend, but apparently, somebody had another idea. I hear Sutton enter the room and look towards her with a nervous smile. Sutton looks to me, then to the full bed and then to the empty bed. She walks up to me and grabs both of my hands, "Harper, I will sleep on the floor if you are not comfortable with sharing a bed with me. I don't want to scare you away, just when things are getting good." A little smirk forms on her face towards the end of the sentence and my heart skips a beat.
Sutton seems to be getting a little more comfortable around me, so I will try to return the favor. "You are not sleeping on the floor, Sutton. C'mon, let's go lay down and let our friends feel like they are masterminds." I hear giggles from the other bed, as Sutton just smiles and shakes her head while I pull back the duvet. We both settle into the bed and I reach for Sutton's hand. I lift my head to look at the ceiling before saying, "Goodnight, nerds." I hear two hum's as a response and Sutton grips my hand quickly as hers.
I try to fall asleep, as I can hear Dylan and Cory snoozing away. Sutton is facing away from me, but I don't hear snoring, but she could just be a quiet sleeper. I decide to try something. I scoot closer to her and gently touch her exposed shoulder from her tank-top. I run it up and down her arm, loving the feeling of her softness. I gently move to her back and continue the light scratches, hoping she is having the best dream.
I circle her back and go back to touching her arm, until I feel the hairs rise up on the skin. I reach for the duvet, thinking that Sutton caught a cold chill, but a hand comes up and stops the duvet from moving. The blonde then turns around and looks at me with those evergreen eyes and whispers. "It's you."
I realize that I am caught red-handed and I wonder if she was awake this whole time, but before I can answer the question, Sutton gets on top of me and straddles my hips. My heart is racing and I have no idea what is going on right now. She leans down and leaves a very gentle kiss to my cheek and then to my nose. We both know we can't talk that much about what has happened tonight, because of the other guests in the bed besides us, so I just do they other thing that I want to at this moment. I sit up, and take her lips in mine while I wrap my arms around her.
I think I may have a new addicted, because I really don't want to every stop, but the need for air becomes overwhelming. We fall back to our sides and I kiss her forehead. Sutton then cuddles into me with her head on my chest and her arm around my torso. I rest my hand on her hip, and just breathe her in. The comfortability of this position is intoxicating and both of our breaths are slowing down. Right before I fall into slumber, I remember one thought, I think I finally understand what it feels like to be falling for someone.
