Serine

"My ear is buzzing
Oh, I'm trapped, no one's coming," -Hailee Steinfeld, Afterlife

***

I stared at the girl in the mirror and I shook my head, disappointed. What happened to me? I was okay, I was completely fine.

But I just had to be pushed down once again.  I just had to let myself be hurt again, I just had to see him.

Dream about him and have nightmares with only him in them. Why didn't I do something? Why couldn't I speak up? Why was I weak? Why did I have to fluctuate? Why did I pay the price at such a young age?
Why did I leave my dad on my own? Why? Why did it have to be me.

I hopped into the shower and allowed the hot water burn my skin. I never felt bothered as I saw some parts of my body become a darker shade of pink and allowed my muscles to relax.

"Everybody please welcome your new classmate. Serine Williams," I shyly looked up and felt more than a dozens of eyes staring at me and nobody said a word. "Why's everybody so quite?"

Ms Pillar seemed to have spoken to soon when everybody began laughing.

Their young mirths were like knives stabbing me on the inside. Some were even pointing fingers at me while laughing and although my tears were blurring all of them, I could still hear their laughter. It didn't take any scientist to know who they were laughing at. But the question is why?

It took me a couple of years to finally see how all people were different. Some of us had curly hair and straight hair. Some had short legs and long legs. Some of us had the body of a model and some of us had a hips, like me.

All of us were different people, with different skin colors so why was it problem? What was so wrong in being different?

"And you wonder why your mom died before she could even see you,"

"You are a murderer!"

"You deserve to die."

"She's just another wannabe-" I abruptly shook my head and turned of the shower.

This was not the time to think of the past.

We were not born to be the same.

I walked down the school hall and for the first time in quite some time, I wasn't doing okay.

I sighed and fought a glare. "I told you not to drive me to school McCann. It wasn't necessary,"

"I-" I didn't even give him the time to speak and just shut the door to his car. My bags slings was on my one shoulder as I proceeded walking. I could feel everybody's stares and obviously the last thing they expected was to see was me Serine Williams, at the back of Alexander's motorcycle.

"Oh wow now that's a new ship,"

"Tots for my blog,"

"Isn't that the girl who lost her mother?" My heart stopped but I forced myself to keep on walking and pretend like I didn't hear her.

I hated people talking about my mother. I've heard so many, blame me for her death.

"What a slut though."

"Just like her mom," And that's when I snapped. My head whipped into the direction where I heard the voice. "What did you just say?"

The girl opened her mouth to say something but instead she gulped. "What? You're not going to say anything?"

"You heard her bitch!" I whipped my head back but only to end up being pushed. The push was almost hard enough to make me fall but I didn't. I spoke to soon when I felt someone else triple and that's when I fell face first.

I felt my lip go numb almost immediately and that's when I tasted blood. And it was only when I lifted my head up that I was welcomed with a series of laughs. My heart began to race and it was like I was reliving the moments of my junior times.

I remembered myself as that little girl who was bullied everyday that she'd go to school.

Their laughs were so loud that I pictured each and every one of them insulting me. "Back the fuck off!" I heard a voice.

"What are you staring at huh?! Huh? Don't you have your own damn stupid life to worry about than bullying others? Because if I find the person who is responsible for this, I will have no mercy on your miserable ass you hear me?!"

Levine.

I felt a pair of arms on my waist as I still struggled to get up. I caught a glimpse at the familiar black leather jacket and I instantly knew who it was. "You okay?" He knitted his brows and looked at me with concern.

My mind was begging to retort but I just couldn't say anything. I continued to stare ground with my bleeding lip. "I'm going to find who was responsible for this," And I still didn't say anything back.

"Who the hell did this?"

Nobody answered. "Whoever did this better step out before I make them,"

It was silent again but this time a girl who had here head hung low appeared. "You bitch-" Levine moved closer to her but Sarah pulled her back. And Sarah surprised me when she gripped the girl by the arm and shoved her into Alexander's arms. "Who tripped her?" I heard Sarah ask the girl. "Girl you better answer h-"

"M-Mikayla," the guy cried and one of Kelly's minions stepped out. "What are you gonna do about it?" Mikayla asked twirling her hair and dared to challenge Levine.

"Can I at her?" Levine turned to Sarah and to my surprise, Sarah nodded. Without another second Levine punched Mikayla and she fell back. She grabbed a handful of her hair and banged her back against the wall.

Levine stopped when Sarah approached her. "Don't think I ever forget faces," She said grabbing her bag and threw her one dirty look before walking off.

Sarah helped me stand up and we made our way to the sick bay.

And it was then where I began changing my mind about Alexander. His warm hand entwined with mine and something inside of me just told me not to let go.

Maybe, just maybe, he wasn't has bad as I thought he was.
