D-3 to the Eclipse
As soon as me and Seungcheol were back at the surface, Seungcheol's phone pierced the eerie silence of the cave, the shrill ring reverberated against the damp walls, sending shivers down our spines.
A sense of foreboding washed over us, casting a shadow of fear across our faces. We exchanged a knowing glance, the weight of the impending disaster heavy in the air.
Seungcheol's hand trembled slightly as he reached for the phone, his hesitation a visible testament to the gravity of the call.
With a deep breath, he summoned his courage and swiped the screen, the sound amplifying through the cave's acoustics.
"Hello?" His voice rang out, echoing like a haunting melody that danced around the darkened cavern.
I held my breath, my senses heightened, as I strained to catch every word of the conversation. Seungcheol's eyes flickered to mine, a mixture of apprehension and determination etched upon his face, before he activated the loudspeaker, enveloping the cave in an eerie chorus.
As the voice on the other end spilled forth, a sense of panic washed over Seungcheol, his features contorting with confusion and dread.
His hand moved with a mixture of urgency and despair, abruptly ending the call. A pallor settled upon his face, draining it of color, as he turned to me, his voice barely above a whisper.
"Dani," he uttered my name, his words laced with trepidation. "It's starting."
My heart pounded against my ribcage, a wild drumbeat of fear and uncertainty. I struggled to process his cryptic words, desperately hoping that what he meant wasn't true. The weight of his revelation pressed upon my chest, threatening to suffocate me in a cloud of impending doom.
"What do you mean?" I managed to choke out, my voice quivering with a mixture of anticipation and dread.
Seungcheol's eyes met mine, reflecting the flickering light of the cave's entrance. They bore into me, brimming with urgency and a deep-seated unease.
"The island," he murmured, his voice laden with a potent mixture of fear and resignation. "It's starting to fall apart."
As the weight of Seungcheol's words settled upon us, a surge of adrenaline propelled us into action. Without wasting a moment, we hurriedly made our way back towards Sakura Island, our hearts pounding in our chests, fueled by a mixture of fear and determination.
With every step we took, the urgency grew. However, as we reached the bridge that connected the island to the mainland, our hearts sank. The once sturdy structure now bore the scars of the crumbling island. Portions of the bridge had collapsed, leaving a treacherous path filled with uncertainty and danger.
But we couldn't let that deter us. We pressed forward, cautiously traversing the remaining intact sections of the bridge, our eyes scanning the horizon, searching for any signs of hope. The island still crumbled in the distance, an ominous sight that sent chills down our spines.
As we finally set foot on Sakura High School compoud, the scene before us painted a stark picture of chaos and evacuation. Helicopters and small planes whirled in the sky, carrying away the island's residents to safety. The sound of their engines echoed in the air, mingling with the crumbling of the land beneath our feet.
Seungcheol, overwhelmed by a sense of failure, sank to his knees, his hands trembling with anguish. He berated himself for his perceived incompetence, for not being able to save the island and its people. His voice was filled with regret and self-blame, the weight of the responsibility crushing his spirit.
