Chapter 24: Out of the closet

Soobin's POV: 

For a small while, Taehyun hesitated to explain, but we gave him time and in the end, he told us. He told us about the rumors that were spread around about him and Hueningkai and that the betrayal of his friends was the reason why he wanted to stay away from popularity.

"You now know." he finished up. 

This kind of secret might not seem serious to hide, but the betrayal hurt Taehyun, and I get that. He cherishes friendships more than any other relationship in his life and to feel that truly crushed him. 

I let go of Yeonjun-hyung's hand that was locked with mine and simply went to hug Taehyun as he was still holding Beomgyu's. He used his other hand to hug me back, and eventually, I felt his other hand hug me back too, as he locked his fingers together, like he usually does.

This hug felt like the one to bring us closer. But there was one more person who was not sincere here.

Me.

I hide a lot of things from my friends. Mostly personal. Even from Yeonjun-hyung. But I don't want them to worry or pity me. Yeonjun-hyung was worried enough about me when I told him that I want to go home. Sure, I could've stayed with him, but it just doesn't feel right. Plus, I can't leave my brother there alone. Sure, he is older and can stand up for himself against our parents, he's always done that but it doesn't feel right to leave him there. 

I'm just happy that I got to learn the truth about Taehyun's past. I will tell him about me as well. Sooner or later. But definitely not now. He has a lot to deal with now. He doesn't need to worry about me too.

With that being my last thought, we pulled away from the hug.

"I will come over to Hyuka's today. I don't care who sees us or not, but I won't let those dumb rumors ruin our friendship again," we all heard Taehyun say determined. "I'll see you later, guys."

"Bye, Taehyun!" we all waved goodbye to him.

I looked over at Beomgyu who looked like he was definitely planning on something in his head. 

"Beomgyu-ah, what are you thinking?" I asked, slightly worried by the expression he was making, not being able to read it.

"I don't care about the rumors if they are about me, but I do care when they are about my boyfriend," was all that Beomgyu said and left home as well, saying  "goodbye" to me and Yeonjun-hyung.

"What was it about? You know him the longest, hyung."

Yeonjun had a satisfied smirky smile placed on his lips. 

"I better trust him. Sure, Beomgyu can say whatever before thinking, and sometimes I'm ready to strangle him, but when he is serious about something, I wouldn't try  stopping him."

Guess I should trust both of them then-

3rd person's POV:

The following week wasn't getting any better. The boys were surrounded by rumors about the two maknaes. All of them tried their best to ignore every possible source, but it's quite hard to do so when the information is literally shoved into your face every single second of your life. With time, students have calmed down, but there were obviously people who couldn't let something like this slide. A bunch of notes were filling Taehyun's locker, and he didn't even bother reading them. He didn't need to read another bunch of hate notes, notes of disappointment, or some fake support.

Soobin and Taehyun were passing in the hall when they saw a crowd around Hueningkai.

"Listen, the fact that I and Taehyunie were friends in our old school, yes, that's true. But that was all we were. Friends. We were never something more. The information that is spread to you right now is just carefully cropped out clips and photos, supported by the rumors spread about us in our old school as well. Taehyun was never interested in me. Please, stop assuming and thinking of the rumors as true facts. You've heard my truth now. The rest is up to you. But before spreading any information further, confirm it for yourself that it's true. It'll make it easier for everyone. Except for haters of course." the boy finished up his speech with a cute giggle and a bright smile, leaving Taehyun and Soobin in a shocking state, and even Beomgyu and Yeonjun too, who were on the other side of the crowd.

"Did he just--"

"Shut them all up."

"Goddamn, Huening."

Beomgyu seemed to be a bit lost in thoughts.

'I will do it.'  he thought.

Beomgyu caught Taehyun in the hall and as he tried talking to the boy, they kept getting interrupted by constant talks of the fans that saw the two.

"Oh look, it's Beomgyu and Taehyun."

"You still ship those two?"

"Do you think Hueningie-oppa was saying the truth?"

"I'm pretty sure those two might've been in love."

"Or maybe Taehyun-oppa rejected Hueningkai-oppa. Remember, Hueningie said that it was Taehyun that wasn't interested in him. He didn't mention anything about himself though.."

"Really? I don't remember."

The more Beomgyu kept hearing, the more his teeth clenched, and the more his palms turned into fists.

"Taehyun," he started.

"They probably still had feelings for each other, and Taehyun switched schools to avoid Hueningkai because of the rumors."

"LISTEN, EVERYONE!" Beomgyu suddenly yelled, gathering everyone's attention.

He grabbed Taehyun's hand and intertwined their fingers, bringing the red-haired boy closer.

"Beomgyu-hyung, what are you doin--"

"Taehyun can't possibly be dating Hueningkai, because-!" he paused for a second before immediately finishing his thought. "Because he is my boyfriend."

He brought a confused Taehyun closer to himself and passionately planted a kiss onto the younger's lips.
