The nikkah and wedding reception were being held in the garden of both our houses. It had been lightly decorated and only a few of Mr.Mazari's close friends were invited. From my side we only invited Lizetta and Luke since most of dads friends were the same.
My wedding dress was a simple anarkali suit in white which I had opted for instead of the gown and I felt so much more comfortable in. Zainab and her friend had helped me with my makeup and hair. Along with gold shimmering eyes and winged catliner I had gone with my hair down in soft curls. Lizetta had come alone just minutes before I was due to walk down stairs which didn't give me the chance to speak with her about last night. She hugged me and placed some baby's breath flowers in the crown of my hair in a semi circle. I could see she was holding tears back but she held my arm firmly and walked me into the landing where dad stood.
'You look beautiful beta' he choked, his eyes were red and I almost lost my composition. I hugged him tightly and we began the descent down to the white silk fabric that had been laid like a runway out the kitchen patio onto the garden. As we got closer I saw everyone eagerly looking my way and smiling at Mr. Mazari before my eyes locked on the most handsome man I'd ever seen. Zack wore a light grey suit and white shirt with the top two buttons open. He had a gold handkerchief and gold and white studded loafers. So chic and understated he looked like a runway model.
He stood up from his chair next to the imam and smiled which caused my heart to do several somersaults. I couldn't help smiling back letting go of the custom of a shy bride. As we walked forward I must have seen the faces of the guests change before I saw her but it didn't take me long to hear the high pitch voice that I associated with a sore cheek.
His mum stood arguing with several of what I recognised to be board members by the rose bush that connected the two houses. My cheeks flushed as anger boiled inside me. How dare she today of all days. What did she want?
Mr. Mazari beckoned me forward and we continued walking until I was sat next to Zack. He whispered in the imam's ear and he began a prayer, it was at this moment that her voice got louder and I finally heard it.
' My son can not marry that girl, over my dead body. I do not give permission, Zack are you hearing me?' she hissed her venom but no one looked surprised and they managed to keep her from coming any closer.
'Maya Noor Pasha do you accept this marriage..' I was still focused on the commotion so Mr. Mazari nudged me
'Yes' I whispered unable to comprehend that I was getting married this way.
