Rose Hill, Tenessee

"The sandwich was fair, the spring was a little rusty; the rest of the materials... I'll make do.", Dad says, as me, him, and Harley stroll down the snow-covered street, "By the way, when you said your sister had a watch, I was kinda hoping for something a little more adult than that.", he says and we all look down at the pink Dora the Explorer watch he's rocking.

"She's six! Anyway, it's limited edition.", Harley laughs.

"I think it's really stylish.", I smirk.

"When can we talk about New York?", Harley asks.

I feel myself tense up at the reminder of it, and Dad voices my thoughts perfectly, "Maybe never, relax about it."

"And, Aria, do you have like magic powers or something?", he asks me, "That's what everyone's saying."

"I don't know.", I shrug, looking away,

"What about the Avengers, can you talk about them?", he pries.

"I don't know, later. Hey kid, give me a little space.", Dad puts out an arm to keep Harley away from him. We stop in front of a memorial, which has been placed around the remains of an explosion site, "What's the official story here? What happened?"

"I guess this guy named Chad Davis, used to live roundabouts, won a bunch of medals in the army.", Harley tells us, sitting down, "One day, folks said he went crazy and made, you know, a bomb. Then he blew himself up right here."

"God, that's awful.", I say, looking around at the flowers and candles dotted around.

"Six people died, right?", Dad checks.

"Yeah."

"Including Chad Davis?"

"Yeah."

Dad looks at the five shadows painted on the wall, "Yeah. That doesn't make sense.", he says, sitting next to Harley, "Think about it. Six dead, only five shadows."
