Chapter 1: The big fight
Austin Texas 2023 at fire station 126. TK Strand jumps out of the Ambulance after a call and walks into the kitchen where Paul Strickland is making lunch.
"What's for lunch?" TK asks.
"Grilled cheese sandwiches and Tomato Soup." Says Paul
"Oh yum" He says and walks away.
TK go's to find his ambo partner Nancy Gillian. Nancy sits in the ambulance refilling the goz container. TK finds her and helps her out.
After helping Nancy out and eating Lunch, TK go's to finish cleaning the ambulance. After a few a minutes the ambulance gets a call and TK, Nancy, and their Captain Tommy Vega head out. The call is for an old man who had a heart attack. They reach the man's house and head inside. TK starts heart compressions to revive the man.
"Clear" says Nancy and she shocks the man.
Nothing happens he's still coding. TK dose heart compressions again. Nancy shocks him again but again nothing.
"Try turning up the voltage." Says TK.
"I can't." Says Nancy
"We are on max voltage." She says
The lines on the heart shocker go straight and the man is gone.
"Well there is nothing we can do for him anymore." Says Captain Vega.
She radios to say they lost the man. TK feels angry that they lost the man. Back at the fire station TK is still angry that they lost their patient but he go's to sit down on the couch to calm his self down. After that his father Captain Owen Strand calls him up to his office. TK go's up to his father's office.
"What's up dad?" He says.
"Well I have some bad news." Says Owen.
"What is it?" Asks TK.
"Well the ambulance numbers have gone down in the past few months and the Chief wants me to get one new paramedic." He says.
"WHAT!" Yells TK.
"Keep your voice down." Says Captain Strand.
"Who is it?" Whispers TK.
"Well that's the bad news son" Says Owen.
"What?" Says TK getting angrier.
"The paramedic with the lowest numbers is you." He says.
"WHAT!" TK says now really angry.
"How could you do this to me DAD!" Yells TK
"WELL IT WASN'T MY DECISION!" Owen yells back.
"It was the department's." He says.
"Am I even staying in Austin?" Asks TK still angry.
"No your not son." Says Owen.
"Then where am I going?" Asks TK.
"To a firehouse in Chicago." Says Owen.
"Why?" Asks TK.
"They think it will be better for you out there." Says Captain Strand.
"No." Says TK
"Well they're making you so you better go home and tell Carlos tonight because they're giving you 2 weeks to move." He says.
TK walks out of the office still angry about what his father had just told him. Later that day TK walks in the door to his police officer husband Carlos Reyes making dinner.
"Carlos I have bad news." Says TK.
"What is it baby?" Asks Carlos.
"You need to give your two weeks notice at work and find a job at another police station." Says TK.
"Why?" Asks Carlos.
"Well apparently my paramedic numbers are down so they're transferring me to a fire station in Chicago." He says.
"Well that's ok will make things work" says Carlos as he kisses TK on the forehead.
"Thank you for understanding." Says TK.
TK gets up off the couch and heads to the dinner table. Him and Carlos eat dinner and make plans for moving to Chicago.
