This day was something I didn't expect in a way. When I expected to be tired and feeling overall down, I actually did act like I usually did. My body had acted the same functions (surprisingly) after being sober.
I decided to go to the ADA myself this time, I wanted to pay back for what Ranpo did. He helped me in a way, the fact I stopped myself from drinking my sorrow out because of our promise is what I'm thanking him for. My life was filled with such sorrow at times, but as any other human, sometimes I forget the light that also exists in life. That light some reach, some don't. It's all to do with luck.
Maybe I am somewhat lucky.
"Hello Ranpo," I mumbled loud enough for him to hear, "I came here today to see you."
Ranpo yawned a little while stretching, "Really?" He sounded..... Off. Dull. "That's great Poe, can we please share sweets together?" He asked me.
My instant response was a nod.
"Good! I sent someone to get me my sweets right away! Oh yeah, also some mochi!"
Mochi tasted really nice when I first tried it out with Ranpo, "That's great, I miss the sweet taste of mochi." I replied.
After that, Ranpo planted his face on his desk - something was wrong. Ranpo was... Drained? "Poe. I figured something out.." Ranpo murmured. "I can't tell you now, can I please tell you tomorrow?" His eyes looked up at me as he raised his head, they were filled with trust in me.
If Ranpo trusts me for this, then I'll accept it. "Yes, Ranpo, whenever you're ready!" The detective had a small smile and rested his head on the desk again.
Soon, the girl from the office came in, "Ranpo! I came in with your snacks!"
"Ah," Ranpo looked up again, "Great, Naomi." His voice had clearly been changed in a way. Naomi placed the set of snacks and bowed slightly to me, as I did the same in return, then leaving. She closed the door behind her. "Weird sister." Ranpo pointed at the door. Then, he held a pack of gummy bears in front of me, "Now let's share, you look sad."
"No- no. I'm really not sad." I replied.
"Oh, so you're Edgar Allen Poe, right?"
My head turned quickly to the voice who said that, "Uhm..uh.. yes." I almost whispered in a way. New people. I hate socializing. So, so tiring.
The young man in front of me, with white cut hair, spoke again, "My name is Atsushi Nakajima, Ranpo talks a lot about you." He smiled, he seemed friendly. I didn't know the agency had such.... A mix of people? I don't know... Ranpo and doctor Yosano are scary at times.
"He does?" I look over at Ranpo, whose to busy eating.
Atsushi smiled, "Yeah, it's pretty cute actually. You know, since you write novels, you should share some." Oh, god, no.
"Ah- I-... Well, I'm not a good author so-"
"Nonsense," Atsushi cut me off, "They've actually appeared in book stores, I think you fail to realise where your writing is getting nowadays, Poe." Wow, what a sweet boy, "I usually see them in the library since I spend time there ever since I was saved by the ADA."
Wow, that's... Very kind. If only my God-father saw this, "I'm so.. surprised. I never thought I had gotten this far now. To the point where people actually recognize my works.. thank you Atsushi." I smiled. The person who saved him must struck real gold.
"Eddie." I looked over at Ranpo. "He's gone now, now spend time with me~." Ranpo grabbed onto my sleeve and dragged me to him with it, making me fall next to him.
When I looked and slowly got up, I saw he rested his head there. "Are you going to sleep again?" I asked. Ranpo nodded.
I let him fall asleep as I wrote down some things. Later on, I was seen by that Atsushi Nakajima again. "A lot of your short stories are really interesting." He smiled. "Most are about failure and they express deep emotions and fear in a way." He said.
"Ah, yes, it's actually based on my own past failures, I wanted to express myself more." I explained to him.
"Wow, that makes the stories more special, huh?" I nodded. What a great day.
When no one was there, I decided to finally leave. I took out my notepad and wrote a note. I ripped out the paper and put it on Ranpo's desk. With that, I was finally able to plant a kiss on Ranpo's forehead.
With that, I left. I wonder what Ranpo wanted to talk about.
