Laylah pov

Paris just texted me and told me she can't come to the dinner and Devonta just left to surprise Paris and hang out with some of the team. So only Jalen will be present at the dinner, but I don't think he knows.

"Hey Jalen," I say.

"Wassup," he says with a smile on his face.

"Unfortunately, Paris and Devonta won't be able to make it to the dinner," I say hoping he won't cancel the plans.

"D was saying he gon hang out with Joel, but what's up with Paris," he asks.

"She has to clear things up with my brother," I reply.

"Why is that if you don't mind me asking," Jalen asks.

"All I know is Tobias was being "weird" to her," Jalen nods his head, turning back around.

"Wait, your brother is Tobias Harris?" He asks in shock.

"Yep that's him, he is the basketball player and I am the younger sibling trying to become a pediatric cardiologist," I say trying not to sound disappointed as we make our way to his car since I Ubered here.

"Why do you sound so disappointed?"

"I mean I feel like he is good at everything without using any effort and I have to try and go to school, not that, that is the bad part," I say chuckling. He nods and smiles at me. I don't know what it is about him but his smile made me feel better. Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzz, damn my phone kept vibrating who was texting me. It happened to be my Philly friend group.

"Who's got you so caught up in that phone," laughs Jalen, getting ready to head into Mastro's.

"Oh, it was just my friends, Joel was trolling Ben and Devonta," I say, making Jalen laugh.

"Well come on girl, before the reservation is over," he says, making me hurry up. I hurry up and catch up to him, but while crossing the street I grip on to his arm. He looks at my hands but acts as if nothing happened. IF it weren't for the anxiety caused by cars not stopping I wouldn't be holding him. I tensed up while crossing the road, he felt my hands grip tighter, so he put his muscular arm around my shoulders.

"Hey calm down, I am here, if you want to talk we can once we sit down," he says giving me a sympathetic smile while we stand in line to get our table. I nod, smiling back and resting my head on his oddly large shoulder. We made our way to the booth that was secluded from the rest of the restaurant.

"You wanna tell me what's wrong now?"He asked, being the gentleman he has been acting like all night. I look at him and take a deep breath.

"So one day I had gotten into a car accident while I was on my way back to my college dorm at UPenn. But the other driver was drunk and they didn't stop at the red light so we collided and I suffered a concussion with a fractured rib. But the other driver had...pa- passed away." I explained with a tear coming down my face followed by many others.

He scooted over to be on the same seat as me, "I am here for you if you need to go anywhere and can't drive. I'll drive for you, I'll be your personal chauffeur."He says trying to lighten the mood while hugging me and wiping the tears off my now red cheek.

"I might pick you up on that offer Hurts, got a couple of games to come and support my brothers at," I laugh.

"Your food is ready," says the waiter coming and interrupting "the moment". He handed both of us the pasta we had ordered and we got straight to eating, man was I starving. To be honest, Jalen wasn't bad but I didn't want to rush into things, he seems too good to be true. Hopefully, I get to know him better.
