Jalen POV
I was woken to a rude awakening this morning by a pretty girl with long dark brown hair and brown eyes at my front door.
"Hey Jalen," she said, snapping me out of my stare.
"Hey Laylah, what are you doing here, and how you know I live here?" I asked.
"I know people and we gotta talk," she responded, making me nervous. I mean what do we possibly need to talk about? We walked in and she went to the couch while I went to grab a sweatshirt to cover my bare torso.
"Aight, what was that you wanted to talk about," I asked, taking a seat quite far from her.
"Okay, so last night Paris completely ignored Ben and me but responded to Devonta. But she didn't tell him how she was at the Elements all the way in Princeton. Like who would go there alone but then she left me on read once I started questioning her." Laylah vented, catching her breath.
"Look I have no idea why she was out yesterday nor who she was with, but ima make it clear whoever it must be must be special enough for her to be ignoring you," I responded feeling guilty about lying, but then felt a sudden pain in my left bicep.
"Ay why you hit me, f*ck," I said rubbing my arm.
"No one is more important, family is all that we got. I hope you remember that at the evening practice," she said pointing at my arm.
"Okay Dominic Toretto, I'm sorry, forget it. I lied. I didn't want to tell you this but she was with Matisse...Thybulle." A weight had been lifted off my shoulders but I had just made the situation worse. "But don't tell anyone she told me not to tell you but then she said some other things so I felt like I had to. It's gonna make the situation worse between the 5 of us and Tobias is gonna be the 6th. We cannot have that if anyth-"
"Jalen ima need for you to stop rambling like just shut up. I know you feel bad but I have to go talk to her. She was sleeping when I left." She responded and started grabbing her things.
"Laylah no don't leave let's hang out today. If you confront her you can lose a friend but if you don't you can make another one," I said smiling while grabbing my keys.
"N-"
"Okay let's go," I cut her off and headed towards my gray Chrysler, and opened the door for her.
"Aw what a gentleman," said Devonta pulling up to the condos.
"Boy if you don't get your butt inside," I laughed.
"Don't talk to my lil brother like that," Laylah exclaimed, walking over and giving Devonta a hug. He had a massive smile and laughed at me.
"Hey just cause y'all childhood friends don't mean anything," I said wanting him to get his hands off her.
"That means everything," replied Laylah.
"I know him better just by being with him in Alabama. No, it don't," I responded, trying to leave.
"Jalen calm down, Devonta is my little brother not my best friend. I ain't gon be singing 'best friends brother is the one for me'. Aight? So you must chill." She said coming over to me and wrapping her arm around my arm.
"Whoa, things are a lil too friendly here," Devonta yelled walking away. "Btw Paris is coming at like 11 if y'all wanna hang," he added leaving.
"Babygirl come on, I'm starving and want some IHOP. Now get your behind in the car." I said quickly, closing the door behind her.
"Jeez chill, and gimme the aux." She said thinking I'm actually going to give her the aux.
"My car, my music."
