iris's pov

wanderlust. the irresistible, uncurable desire to wander. apparently i haven't been able to keep my mind in one place all week.

"iris, you just chased a butterfly," dally said. "butterflies are pretty," i replied as i stepped in a pile of leaves. "you aren't four man you shouldn't chase them anymore," he chuckled. "too bad so sad," i replied. we walked into the curtis house and i sat in darrys chair crossing my arms.

"what're you pouting about kiddo?" darry asked. "dallas thinks i'm too old to chase butterflies," i said.

"i love butterflies!" ponyboy said. "see?!" i said. "oh no no no, no butterflies for me," soda said. "what? why?" i asked. "i don't like 'em," he said. "yeah sure little buddy," darry laughed. "don't tell me you're scared of them," i said starting to laugh. "i'm not!" he said defensively.

"okay, i'll be back," i said walking out the door. it took me about 30 minutes cause i couldn't stay focused, but i caught a butterfly.

i walked back into the curtis house, my hands closed. "what are you doing?" johnny asked. i laughed slightly, walked up to soda and opened my hand making the butterfly fly around him. he screamed and ran behind me. "i knew it!" i said and opened the front door so it could fly out.

"i hate you," he said sitting down. "oh well thats nothing new, were you just pretending to like me and be my friend or," "shut up," he laughed.

"you can't hate each other now! your date is tomorrow!" ponyboy said. "too bad for him, he said he hates me," i joked. "oh yeah speaking of, what time is that at?" i asked turning to soda. "how's six?" he asked. "perfect," i said.

"y'all wanna come to the party at bucks tonight?" dally asked. "i'm in," i said. "i dunno, my old mans been in a bad mood," johnny said.

"oh come on johnnycakes you can sleep at my house," i said. "alright man i'm in," he said and i smiled. "i wanna go," ponyboy said. "it's a school night ponyboy," darry interjected. "oh come on dar, let him go," i said. "but he won't be rested for school," he argued. "if he doesn't go, i'll punch him myself," i said.

"deal," darry said. "yeah i'll go," soda said. "i guess i can too," steve said. "where's keith?" i asked. "out with kathy," ponyboy said.

"well let's go then, WAIT! i need to change," i said. we walked to my house, and to our luck, it was only my dad packing at home. "hey dad i'm going to bucks," i said. "and you decided to come home first?" he joked. "i'm changing!" i laughed. "then you five better stay down here," he said.

"yes sir," soda said. i walked upstairs and looked through my closet. i grabbed two dresses and ran downstairs. "non so cosa indosarre!" i groaned. (i don't know what to wear) "quale vestito?" (which dress?) i asked my dad. "chiedi la soda e qualunque cosa ti dica, indossa l'oppisite," he replied. (ask soda and whichever he says wear the oppisite)

"perché il contrario?" i asked. (why the opposite?) "perché qualunque cosa lui dica ti fa sembrare più sexy," he replied. (because whatever he says makes you look hotter) i laughed and turned to soda who looked scared.

"what are you saying about me?" he asked and i laughed. "which dress should i wear?" i asked.

"the navy one, that way only i can stare at yo- uh it's less scandalous," he said making me laugh. i looked at my dad and raised an eyebrow. "i guess i was wrong," my dad said. "thanks bevanda,"  i said running upstairs. i put on the dress with my white converse and ran downstairs.

"no heels?" dally asked. "why would i wear heels when these are comfortable?" i asked and he shrugged. "to bucks we go!" i said pointing to the door. as we walked to bucks, soda gave me a curious look.

"what?" i asked. "what did your dad say about me?" he asked and i smiled. "he told me to ask you which dress to wear and wear the opposite because he thought you would choose the more scandalous one," i replied. "but i chose the less scandalous one," he said. "yeah why is that?" i asked. "i didn't want all the other guys staring at you, but i think you look perfect in anything," he said.

"just date already!" steve yelled and i laughed.we walked into bucks and it was packed.

music was full blast, people dancing everywhere, lights flashing. i walked to the bar with dally and buck sighed. "you know i can't give you anything ripley," he said. "pleaseeeee," i smiled. "one drink that's it," he said. he handed it to me and i walked away to find the gang. i found johnny and ponyboy but none of the others.

"where are soda and steve?" i asked. "i don't know they took off," ponyboy said. "johnny you wanna come with me or stay with pone?" i asked seeing the girl pony was eyeing. "i'll come with ya," johnny replied. we went to find them and saw steve dancing with some girl. i got a bad feeling in my stomach as we continued to walk. we saw soda dancing with some girl and i had to use all my self control not to pull them apart.

"iris i'm so sorry," johnny said. "we aren't together anyway," i said taking a shaky breath. "maybe it's just a misunderstanding, let's dance," i smiled at him. "actually," he said hesitantly. "go," i laughed. he went and asked a girl to dance and i smiled sadly and walked back to the bar.

i saw dally with some slutty girl and went over to them. "can you excuse us? thanks," i smiled at her and pulled him aside.

"oh come on iris i was gonna bang her," he said and i rolled my eyes. "man whore, anyway, i need someone to dance with and soda is dancing with someone else," i said. "then go break them up not me," he said. "i feel bad doing that to him not to you," i said. "whatever man," he said.

soda's pov

when iris went to get a drink, two girls grabbed me and steve's arms asking us to dance. i kindly declined but steve looked at me with a pleading look.

"but iris," i said. "please man," he said and i sighed. i danced with her for only a few minutes then went to find iris. she was dancing with dally. i knew i shouldn't have danced with that girl, it probably gave iris the wrong idea.

"iris!" i said going up to them. "i've been looking for you,"

"what about that girl over there? y'all looked pretty happy," she said. "that was steve's doing," i sighed. oh great. "i promise i wanted to dance with you," i said. "i'm gonna go," dally said. "come with me," i said. she sighed and grabbed my hand. i lead her out of the bar and the cool night breeze blew through her long blonde hair.

"you know i don't care if you danced with the girl right? it's not like we're dating," she said. ouch. "i understand if you don't like me dancing with her, steve begged me too," i said putting my hands on her face.

"i believe you," she said. "i'm sorry if i gave you the wrong idea," i said. "sodapop, it's not a big deal okay? i understand," she laughed. i kissed her forehead and laces my fingers with hers. "i'll walk you home," i said. "we gotta have johnny with us," she said. "i'll get him," i smiled.
