Normal P.O.V

Naruto's face became red, upon hearing those words whispered in his ear, the words alone left him in a state of pure starstruck, when reality had finally hit him, that he just was told the three little words he desperately wanted to hear by the man that used to mean everything to him, he was gone.

Standing up, he looked around the cafe, but saw no sign of Sasuke. Sitting back down, he covered his face with his hands, his cheeks suddenly feeling warm 'did that really just happen?' he thought, replaying the words in his head.

Meanwhile back at the office...

"We followed him closely, just like you asked Mr.Nara" a tall male spoke, he was dressed in an all black suit, and wore pitch black sunglasses, another tall gentleman stood next to him dressed in the same attire. Shikamaru stood over his desk, he stared down at the pictures the men had brought in.

"You sure, you saw him do...this?" the brunette asked, a look of worry on his face as he picked up the pictures, the older men simply nodded their heads. Shikamaru sighed as he took a seat "thank you...please continue to keep an eye on him from a safe distance"

"Of course sir, anything else?"

"No that-" he paused in his sentence, squinting his eyes, he made out the man in the photo. 'Sasuke?! Why would he be with Sasuke?!'

"On second thought, I'll pay extra, if you could keeps tabs on Sasuke Uchiha for me as well"

Naruto entered his office quietly, sitting back at his desk, he stared off into space, his mind still thinking back to the cafe. Being lost in thought, he hadn't heard the door to his office open and close. "WHAT THE HELL!" Shikamaru yelled, starling the blonde back into reality.

"Shikamaru, what's the matter?" he asked, staring at the brunette with a look of confusion. Shikamaru marched right up to Naruto's desk, slamming the photos in front of him, he pointed to them. "Are you having an affair with Sasuke? Is that why you didn't want me to come with you to lunch? So you could sneak off and makeout!!"

"What- no of course not, why would you even ask that?" Naruto looked down taking a look at the pictures on his desk, there faced two pictures at two different angles showing Sasuke kissing him. Naruto raised a brow "Shika, this isn't what you think" he chuckled a bit.

"Though I have to admit I'm a little flattered that you got jealous." Shikamaru blushed a bit "don't try to charm your way out, be honest with me" Naruto sighed picking up the photos he motioned for Shikamaru to come around the desk and join him. "Look here, the angle is all wrong, see" he pointed. "You can clearly tell he's by my cheek, you can hardly call that a kiss" he spoke casually handing the photos back to the brunette.

Shikamaru stared at the photos for a minute looking back and forth between the two. "FYI you can't exactly tell, but it's not even my cheek, it's my ear" he laughed. Shikamaru blushed even more, suddenly feeling embarrassed now at his sudden outburst. "Sorry I'll leave you to your work..." he mumbled, tossing the photos in the trash. About to take his leave, he stopped in his tracks "wait a minute,why didn't you just tell me you were meeting Sasuke?"

"I wasn't-"

"Is he the one that's been calling here for the past few days?"

"Yes"

"Why didn't you tell me? Why lie?"

"I don't know, Sasuke and I have a history, and I didn't want to risk making you jealous somehow I guess, he wanted to talk, and I was just indulging him" he shrugged nonchalantly.

"A history?" was the only thing Shikamaru could say "as friends?" he questioned. Naruto simply shook his head, letting out another sigh he decided it was time to come clean, and tell the brunette everything. "We used to be a couple..."

Shikamaru sat across from Naruto's desk, he was gobsmacked "I never would have guessed" he said, still in shock. 'That means all those conversations I had with him weren't friendly like I thought, he must have had other motives and now I know why' he thought, frowning some, here he had thought he had made a potential new friend, but as it would turn out he made an enemy.

"Now that, that's out of the way I should probably get back to work"

"I'll leave you to it..."

About to get started on his work, Naruto let out a gasp, gripping his shirt tightly, he reached in his desk drawer for his pills. Shikamaru ran to Naruto's side "are you ok? What's wrong?" he asked with worry, Naruto not being able to get his words out, motioned to his pills, Shikamaru taking the hint, grabbed the bottle, giving Naruto two pills and a cup of water.

When the pain in his chest finally calmed down, Naruto leaned back in his chair, letting out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, I really needed that"

"Why are you taking pills? I didn't know you needed pills? What are they for?"

Naruto looked down at the pills then back to a worried looking Shikamaru "I don't usually need them, they are just to help me calm down for when I get to worked up, I had to take some when I had an extreme panic attack two years ago...when I found out about Sasuke" putting the pills back in his desk, he finished the last of the water in the cup. "I didn't need them after that, but once I started working for dad again, I thought it would be a good idea to have some on hand just in case, so I went got some prescribed"

Frowning his brows, Shikamaru couldn't help but think he was the reason he had to see Naruto take those pills in front of him "I'm sorry" he apologized, surprised Naruto was quick to dismiss him "you don't have to apologize it's not your fault, i'm fine don't worry about it, anything can set it off" he chuckled.

Nodding his head in understanding, Shikamaru turned to leave "ok..."

"Shikamaru" the blonde called, having the brunette stop as he had reached the door.

"Honestly it's nothing to worry about, it's just work you know how I get staying up here so late"

"Yeah, of course..." he gave a faint smile before exiting the office, the doors closing behind him.
