manhattan: seven years ago

Dixie held hands with Alex as they walked along. She got ready to say goodbye to her significant other.

Right now Dixie was twenty. Two and a half years working as a cop. Her and Shawn had gotten requested by Sam into the 8-9 precinct and the three had been working together ever since the two graduated the academy.

Alex also went to the academy with them. Her and Dixie grew closer during the program and started a low key relationship that turned serious quite quickly.

But after working a high profile case with detectives from LA, one of them asked Alex to come with them back to LA to get the best detective training. It was an offer she couldn't refuse, so Dixie urged her on and they respectfully broke up.

Alex sighed with nerves. "Don't know how i'm going to do this."

"You'll be fine. You're a badass and they clearly want you there. With your luck you'll make detective by 23." Dixie smiled.

"Ooh could you imagine the fucking street cred I'd have? I mean I would just lorde it over everyone till the day I die." Alex joked.

"Yeah yeah don't get too cocky. I still scored higher than you and Shawn in the academy, remember?"

"Speaking of- where is that little runt? He didn't come to say bye to me?" Alex feigned hurt.

"He claimed he wasn't able to drive because 'the tears are blocking his vision' so he'll call you after you land."

The girls laughed and her flight was announced on intercom.

"That's me." She sighed.

Dixie looked to the girl. "Kick some ass, yeah?"

"You could come kick ass with me." Alex smiled lightly.

She actually considered- "No- No." She said sternly. "Long distance relationships don't work and I'm on my way to detective with Sam and Shawn and my brothers relapsed again. No- we can't."

"Alright worth a shot." Alex put her hands up in defense. "How about we make a plan?"

"What kind of plan?" She didn't like to plan things.

"In ten years- we meet right back here in this spot. And if we've found other people- great. We'll talk all about it. But if not- we'll go for some coffee, see where it leads." The girl smirked.
