💠"As you all know, Charlie Wates is not good news."
"I don't." Kai muttered.
"Detectives Connor and Green put him in jail three years ago and now he's escaped. Our only- I mean only- mission is to bring this guy down. All other cases can wait. I want everyone out finding anything else you can until another clue comes in." Captain Becker briefed the precinct.
Dixie went to grab her gear when Captain Becker lightly grabbed her hand. "Detective you're going to hate this but I need you to be under the protection of these three. Whatever they say, goes."
"What?" Dixie scrunched her brows as Kai and Shawn fist bumped nonchalantly.
"Charlie Wates has always targeted you and after what happened last time I don't need one of my best detectives to end up dead. So follow your orders, Daniels." She demanded before walking to the lab to give Eggsy the note.
She sighed heavily and turned around to Kai's smiling face.
"Let's go." She says- walking away.
"Now, detective, what we say goes." He pointed.
"I'm goona shoot you."

Sam and Shawn went to investigate a clue and Dixie had to stay with Kai in his apartment. Since the debacle with Charlie three years ago- Shawn had moved. So Charlie couldn't have known where they were.
She sighed as she moved around anxiously, wringing her hands over and over.
"Why are you so nervous? We catch bad guys all the time." Kai asked- sitting on the bed in Shawn's room.
"Why are you asking so many questions? It's like a child in my ear." She was shortly.
"Touchy."
"Just quiet down I'm trying to think."
"It might help to talk about it."
She rolled her eyes. "I don't need you teasing me right now, alright?"
"I wasn't teasing." He scoffed as if he was offended. "What happened with this guy anyways?"
She didn't answer, instead she looked down and kept wringing her hands. Kai looked over to her and grabbed her hands so she'd stop. He turned her to him and touched her cheek to lift her head. "What happened, blue?"
She could have sworn she'd cry. Dixie contemplated and deep breathed. "Three years ago I realized Charlie was on of my dads men. I stupidly went to check it out on my own and he kidnapped me."
The flash of his first time at her apartment came into his mind. That little scar on her stomach when he barged in on her. He never figured it was from something like this.
She angrily unbuttoned her shirt and took it off. Lifting her tank top and revealing the scar. "I hate being weak and vulnerable, Kai. I hate it. If Sam and Shawn hadn't gotten there-"
"You'd be dead." He finished. She nodded hastily wiped her eye but he caught her hand, comfortingly rubbing her cheek.
Then he backed up and took off his shirt, turning around to show her his bare back. Her eyes widened slightly. Various now healed scars covered his back.
When he was sixteen he accidentally siphoned his mother. She made a big deal of how she could have died and his father crossed a big line. Even after Kai turned, the scars never went away. They were spelled so he'd always know how much of an 'abomination' he was.
"My sixteenth birthday I messed something up and my dad- well you know. They've never gone away and I hate them." She reached out a hand to ghost touch the scars- afraid of actually touching and hurting him. He turned around. "But I'm here, with you. Being vulnerable doesn't make you weak, Dix."
She deep breathed and took in his words as he smiled to joke. "Plus battle scars are pretty coo-" she interrupted his words by hugging him tightly. He was caught off guard. He's been hugged once by his mom- on his birthday- and twice by Shawn.
That was all. The last two meant a lot. But this meant more.
He hesitantly wrapped his arms around her, feeling a sense of comfort and security. Something he'd never felt with a person.
"Thanks, Kai." She smiled as she pulled away.
"Yeah- ain't no thang." He said- suddenly feeling awkward. Why?
He put his shirt back on as her phone beeped. "Sam, did you find anything?"
"We got a body- and a clue. You might wanna get here." He answered.
"We're on our way, where at?" She signaled to Kai to get ready.
A pause. "Cherry Manhattan Hotel."
Dixie stopped before opening her car door and her stomach dropped.
The hotel where her mother was staying.
