"Well hello Ms. Davina Depp," said the British voice I hadn't heard since the premiere.
"Mr. Jupiter," I greeted back. He smirked and ran his hand through his curls. I noticed he was sitting on his bed, but all the lights were on. "Sorry, forgot it was late in London." That was a lie. It all part of my plan.
"Oh I'm in LA, remember?" he reminded me. Shit. Forgot about that.
"Oh, right," I shook my head. "Well sorry for interrupting your vacation."
"No worries," he chuckled. "Just watching Netflix."
"What show?" I asked. He bit his lip, contemplating if he should answer, before whispering,
"Stranger Things. Your acting is decent."
"Wow," I laughed. "You must really miss me if you're watching my show."
"Yeah, I do," he nodded. He didn't even try to deny it. "I'm excited to hang out Monday."
"Me too," I smiled. "You doing anything fun tomorrow?"
"Interview," he answered. "What about you?"
"Don't have anything special planned. I'll probably just relax. Maybe swim."
"Ah nice," he nodded. "So what's up?"
     "Hmm?"
     "Why'd you call?" Oh yeah.
"Oh, I was gonna ask what kind of food you like," I answered. "So I can pick a restaurant for us to go to on Monday."
"Sounds like a question that could've been answered over text," he teased.
"Well I like FaceTime," I blushed.
"Mhm," he nodded, not convinced.
"Stop," I laughed, covering my face.
"It's ok, I wanted to see your face too," he said softly and chuckling. Damn. What a flirty way to expose me. "Well I'm not picky...about food I mean." he clarified. "You choose, surprise me."
"That's a lot of pressure," I sighed jokingly. "You can't narrow it down for me?"
"I really don't mind where we go," he shook his head. "I'm just excited to see you again." I felt myself blush. "Sorry, that came off a little weird."
"No," I assured him. "It didn't. I'm really exciting to see you too." He smiled back at me before blushing himself.
"Well I also like Italian," he shrugged.
"Italian it is," I laughed. We talked for the next two hours or so about anything we could think of. I told him about all of my friends and he told me about his. He told me about his younger siblings- his sister Jemma and brother Jacobi- and I told him about Lily-Rose and Jack. I even talked about my Dad and his countless girlfriends. I'm honestly surprised I only have two half-siblings...Please don't tell him I said that.
"So Lily-Rose is 21 and Jack is 19?" he confirmed.
"Yep," I nodded.
"I feel like that's such a perfect age difference," he shook his head. "Like, they're close enough in age to you that you can be friends but not so close that you feel you need to do everything together."
"Yeah, I really like it," I agreed. "It must be cool being the oldest, though."
"It has its perks," he shrugged. "But I feel I'd like being the youngest better."
"Nah you seem like a really good older brother," I thought out loud.
"You think?" he laughed gently.
"Yeah, you just give off that energy." I saw a text notification pop onto my screen. "Ugh. Speaking of my siblings, my dad just texted and told me to call him, so can I text you later?"
"I suppose," he sighed dramatically.
"Sorryyyy," I sang back.
"Wait, just before you go, how are we meant to get around on Monday?"
"I can drive," I nodded. "I can pick you up at like noon?"
"Are you sure?" he asked. "I mean, traditionally the boy is supposed to be the one to take the girl out, but you're probably a better driver than me anyway." I felt my heart flutter. Was he calling this a date?
"I mean if you want to assert your dominance, you can drive," I laughed.
"No no," he shook his head and joining in laughing. "I'm not misogynistic like that, I'm just playing."
"Good," I smiled and looked down. "You can drive next time."
"So there'll be a next time?" he teased.
"As long as you don't screw up this one," I teased back which made him smile. "Anyway, I'll text you soon."
"Alright. See you Dovie." I know everyone calls me Dovie, but it sounds so much nicer coming out of his mouth. Maybe it's the accent. No, Millie has the same accent and it sounds normal when she says it. Maybe it's just because it's him.
"Bye Jupiter."
"DONT CALL ME THA-" I hung up before he could finish his sentence. I smiled to myself for a moment and took a deep breath. That went great. I almost completely forgot about the reason I had hung up in the first place: my dad. I opened his text and pressed the call button like he told me to. It rang once or twice before I heard him answer.
"Hi Davina," he said in his deep voice. He always sounds like he's just woken up.
"Hey," I said back. "How are you?" Ok, let's try to put my relationship with my dad into words: long story short, we talk, we see each other every few months, but we'll probably never be too close. We were closer when I was younger, but it was mostly fake. I think I just felt like I had to pretend because Lily-Rose and Jack always did. I could never dislike him, though. He's still my dad and he's done nothing wrong to me.
"I'm good, what about you?"
"Good."
"So you're coming to Hollywood next weekend, right?"
"Yeah, I have to talk to Mom but I'm pretty sure," I answered. She had already given me permission, but I wanted to have a possible excuse just in case I didn't want to go. I know. I'm an awful daughter.
"Ok, wonderful," he said in a monotone voice. I could tell he was excited, though. "Lily-Rose, Jack, and Parker will be there too."
"Yeah, I talked to the- wait, who's Parker?" I heard him talk a quick but deep breath.
"Oh yes, you haven't met Marina yet," he remembered. "My girlfriend. She has a son named Parker. He's your age I believe."
"Oh, ok," I said. "So he'll be there that whole weekend too?"
"If that's ok with you," he joked. In reality, I had no say in it.
"I'll think about it," I joked back. "Well I'm excited."
"Me too," he answered. "Your mother knows she can come too if she'd like, right?"
"Yeah, she knows," I said awkwardly.
"Message received," he sighed. He's always wanted to fix things with my Mom. It's not like they ended on awful terms, but they haven't spoken much since they broke up. "Well I was just making sure you were coming. Do you have someone to drive you?"
"Yeah, either Mom or Lily-Rose if Mom can't for some reason." My sister lives in New York so she'd be flying in for the weekend. Still, she offered to come pick me up if I needed.
"Ok, great. Well I'll see you soon then."
"See you soon."
"Bye."
"Bye."
