A little piece of heaven

Chapter 7

Ouchies

Pigsy stood in front of a white house, and a white picket fence. His small car sat in the driveway and Tang stood in the doorway with Xiaotian. The house took some effort to find, but a small three bedroom home was what they decided on. The moving truck had just left and the dads would be busy setting up the nursery first. Tang had procured a baby monitor and he plugged it in and placed it on the dresser.

"Alright...what do you think Pigsy? Should we paint the room? Or just leave it this way?" He asked. He felt the nibble on his finger. He looked down and chuckled.

"I say we leave it this way, when the kid gets old enough he'll tell us what he wants." Pigsy said as he put a picture on the dresser. It was the three of them next to the Christmas tree. That was two months ago now. The kid was about five months old. Plus he had been teething for some time now.

Drool ran down the boy's chin and onto Tangs hand. Tang made a face that had Pigsy chuckling.

"Well, he's got a brand new tooth." The poor kid's hand was in his own mouth almost all the way.

"Perhaps I should give you a teething ring hum?" Tang asked as he fished around and pulled out a still frozen teething ring. He handed it to the boy and smiled.

"Alright I'm going to put you into the walker so dad and I can finish up your room." The boy of course still didn't answer back. It wouldn't talk for some time still. But he did smile up at Tang, and giggle loudly.

Soon enough all of the nursery was unpacked and set up. Both dads looked satisfied with their work. Plus Xiaotian was changed and fed. Pigsy walked them out to the car and drove them back toward the noodle shop for dinner.

But there were fire trucks along the street. Pigsy parked a block away and climbed out. Picking up Xiaotian, the fathers walked around the corner to see the noodle shop had been burnt out, along with the three shops beside it.

"What...happened to my shop?" Pigsy asked, looking at one of the firemen.

"This shop belong to you? It would seem the guy next door's AC unit caught fire and it spread to the two buildings next to it. Luckily you two and the baby weren't home or it could have gotten worse." Pigsy pulled Tang closer, the reality of what happened falling in on him.

"I'll...I'll call my family up to help rebuild. It won't take us long." Tang technically didn't have a family, but he did have monks and they were almost always ready to help out where they were needed.

"Sounds good, but until then standing around looking at what might have happened isn't good for you two. You should eat something." Tang knew that voice. He turned around to see Jack standing there. His nose and cheeks were red from the cold and his hands were in his jacket pocket. "I had to come to see if you three were alright. I'm glad to see you. Come on, let's go grab a bite. Get that kiddo out of this weather." He said as it began to snow. Almost to put matters on top of it, MK made a shivering motion before curling into Pigsy a bit more.

The family with the assistant walked into a restaurant that had hot pots in the middle of the table. They were shown to a table. Pigsy set Xiaotian down on Tangs lap as he turned on the hot pot on the side of the table and pulled his legs up so he could reach it. He was rather short, but he was also very good with cooking so Jack let him deal with it.

"So I read you two got yourselves a new house. Congrats, is it your first?" He asked as he sipped the tea he had been given by a waitress.

"Ah, nah nah we had an apartment above the store together." Pigsy said as he dropped some of the meat into the hot pot and then the onion.

"I remember when Bai and I got our first apartment together. I'm an american so it was a bit of a culture shock to have one so big, for such a small amount. In the US it's incredibly expensive. But this place is so much more beautiful. A place I can be proud of to raise my kids." Pigsy chuckled as he looked down at his own son who yawned.

"Yeah, he'll be just about old enough for school before we know it, it'll be a blink of an eye before then." Pigsy chuckled, Xiaotians eyes fluttered closed. His mouth hung a little open as he let out a squeaky hiccup.

"Dawww, and oh look...a tooth. Bet he's chewing everything." Jack said. Pigsy laughed.

"Mostly fingers, we had to put bibs on him or he'd just get his shirt all wet." Jack chuckled accepting the place offered by Pigsy.

"Yup as much as I hate to say it, babies drool, poop, eat, sleep, and laugh...it's all they do until they're two. Then it's like they're given enough energy to increase it with ramming speed...and that's why they find the word...ouch." They laughed while sampling the hot pot as they did.

In the back of Jack's mind though, he was learning all he could about these two men. In his small mind, with his small ideas...a plan was hatching within.

"Hey we should have a housewarming party when you're finished unpacking. I'll bring the steaks and the drinks." He said as he sipped the tea. Pigsy chuckled as he looked at Tang who nodded.

"In the summer perhaps. It's much too cold for that now." Tang said as he took a bite of the rice.

"Oh I know!" Jack laughed. "This way you don't have to feel rushed to get finished. Especially while caring for a baby. Maybe by that point he'll have learned to walk...a little." Jack took a bite of the offered rice and smiled. "Wow this is good..."
