Chapter One:

It has been years since my parent’s death. When I was younger, I didn’t really know how they died. Now I do. According to the police, there was a police chase with some robber and he ended up crashing into my parent’s limo. The robber was driving a truck or something… I really don’t remember. Anyway, the truck limo flipped and blah, blah, blah. My uncle became our legal guardian but he’s hardly ever around.

I snapped out of my thought once I heard Betsy’s footsteps. “Alicia! You must get ready for school.” I sighed at her irritation with me. The only reason she was still here with me was because we’re still paying her. I rolled my eyes. I knew Betsy never really liked me. She only worked for the Godberson family because of the moolah. We paid her a good sum of money.

I got up from my bed and made my way to the closet. I threw on my uniform which was a short sleeve blouse and a plaited skirt. We even had to wear a tie and I really hate them with passion. Ties make me feel like I’m choking and I try to make them as loose as possible. Stupid school and dress codes. I walked down the staircase and saw Danny eating a bowl of fruit loops while watching cartoons.

“Really Danny? Grow up.” I snorted.

“Well, I’m still a child at heart. So deal with it.” I laughed at his retort. I sat down beside him scoffing down the pancakes that Betsy made. They tasted like heaven unlike her personality, I thought secretly.

It was Monday morning at school and I waved good-bye to my driver. Going to a prestigious school at Macklemort Girls’ College was pretty awesome. The buildings were really big and they had a swimming pool. If only they had a laser-tag stadium… Did I mention that I love laser-tag? Man, they’re so fun!

“Alicia!” I turned my attention to my best friend Kate Ravens.

“Hi,” I smiled and grabbed my books from inside my locker. We had maths first thing. Of all things… maths. I’m not a genius at it and so is my class. I laughed at one of our moments in an exam.  We all had no idea what the hell we were doing and just copied each other. I copied off my friend Tyrone and Kate copied off me. Tyrone copied off Walter who guessed most of the answers. It was funny how everyone just copied each other and out of sheer luck we passed. Although, Quinn Marshals got a really high result and he didn’t even copy. I should ask him to tutor me one day. I bit my lip.

I sat down at the back of the classroom and immediately opened my journal. Inside I had pictures of every country that I wanted to visit with all the foods and attractions that I definitely had to go. I started doodling on the page when my math teacher called upon me. “Miss Godberson, answer this equation.”

“Um.” I looked around for help but everyone was too scared to look at me. My math teacher was known for giving out detentions.  Uh, um… I don’t know. Just let me go without detention! I hate detention it’s so boring and draining. I have a life. I don’t want to waste my precious time. Life is too short. I started rambling inside my head. Suddenly my math teacher’s face softened. “Sit down, Miss Godberson. If you were paying attention then you’d be answering this equation with no flaws.” I huffed at him and sat down. When the teacher wasn’t looking

Tyrone quickly threw a paper aeroplane at me. I opened it up to find his neat writing scrawled with ‘PAIN IN THE ASS MUCH?’ I grinned at him.

By lunch, I was almost drained and I joined Kate at the cafeteria. “How was the party?” I asked Kate.

“Well, I got a little drunk last night,” Kate admitted. “When I woke up I found a moustache drawn on my face! It took me two hours to scrub it off! When I find out which son of a bi-” Kate was cut when Josh decided to swoop in.

“Hey Alicia, want to go to the bonfire tonight with me?” Josh asked me eagerly. Before I could reply, Kate cut in.

“Do you know how rude it is to cut people through mid-sentence!” Josh chuckled and looked at me. I nodded at him while Kate went on about finding the person who drew on her face. Before the end of the day, I went to my locker to grab my things. I found a note stuck to the inside of my locker with the words ‘See You Soon.’ I smiled at the gesture thinking that Josh must have stuck it in before I arrived.

That night, I arrived at the bonfire with Josh and slowly I became more and more intoxicated. I started to sing randomly and swayed with the music. “I LIKE BIG BUTTS AND I CANNOT LIE!  YOU OTHER BROTHERS CAN’T DENY.” I giggled and fell to the ground rolling around. Kate returned to my side with a pursed lips. She hauled me up by pulling my arm. I started to whine. I was having a lot of fun!

“Alicia, you’re really drunk. Let’s get you home.” Kate pulled me.

“What about Josh?” I asked.

“He’s drunk and no way in hell am I letting him drive you home like that.”

“Aren’t you drunk as well?”

“Nope. I’ve decided to not drink anymore,” Kate said proudly. I smiled at her and she threw me into the passenger seat. I looked at her goofily and went to sleep.

The next week, I started receiving more notes in my locker and I assumed they were all from Josh. It was getting kind of annoying. Even though I hadn’t had a chance to talk to him since the bonfire. Some were just stupid like You smell tasty. Um, hello. I’m not food. I’m a human being. Why couldn’t he just write You Smell Nice.  I rolled my eyes and threw them away.
