{Shane's Pov}

I sat on my bed with my hair done and my suit on and I looked at my watch. Seven thirty. The prom didn't even start until eight thirty, needing to be at Joey's by eight o'clock.

I walked over to my dresser and opened it. I pulled out the small envelope from under my underwear stockpile. It was full of money I had earned over the two years. Working in the summers, snow shoveling on winter weekends, and mowing and leaf piling during the fall and spring. Along with money I saved up over years, from birthday cards from relatives and Christmas cards and such, and a couple hundred my mom loaned me.

More than 4000 dollars in total, which seems like a crazy amount. It felt crazy.

My mom had gotten a new car, which meant I got her old one. Life was working out a bit.

I decided to leave to get to Joeys then.

{Joeys Pov}

Debora: You're so handsome.

Mother said as her tiny arms reached up and straightened my bow tie. I wore makeup to cover up bruises on my skin, I wore a dark brown 'emo-styled' wig on my bald head, because my hair kept growing and falling out again thanks to the treatments. I liked the times I got to be home and at school and not in the hospital, which was moderately to none. I especially liked the times I got to see Shane, whether it be in the hospital or not.

Joey: Not really, but okay.

I looked down at my mom and she rolled her eyes.

Debora: Learn to take compliments.

She straightened out my suit and brushed off the non-existent dust.

Debora: If they give you too many insults or teasing about you and Shane, just come back home or get dinner or something. It's probably best if you don't test how far they'll take it.

I sighed.

Joey: Mom, the other students are okay with me now, they wouldn't beat up a kid with a blood cancer.

My mom mouthed the words 'no risks' and stepped back to look at me better.

Debora: I'm going to grab the camera and we can wait for Shane!

She squealed and ran to go get the camera in her room, her high heels clicking the wooden floors with every step she took. I sighed again.

There was a knock at the door.

I almost ran to get it, realized how much I would look like a little kid, and began to stroll to the door. When I opened it, Shane was at the door with snowflakes in his hair and his hands behind his back. The roads had been iced and salted three time today.

Shane: You look... Great. Stunning. Handsome.

'Click!' A flash of a camera light from behind me, but I didn't take my eyes off Shane, or vice versa.

Joey: Come in! It's cold!

I stepped out of the way and let him in.

From his hands he pulled out a heart locket necklace. It had a picture of us when we were little in it.

Shane: I know it's cheesy but the flower stores were closed and I needed to get you something special.

Shane rubbed the back of his neck and I hugged him tightly, taking him by surprise. He soon wrapped his arms around me.
