"Have a nice weekend everyone! Stay safe!"
I cringe as Mrs. Pierson tries to screech over the final bell of the day. Her voice was never pleasant to listen to.
"See you tonight Amber!" Lena flashes me with her energetic smile. I love how happy she is all the time.
"Yep!" I retort back, putting on a fake smile until she broke her gaze. I'm still really stressed out about Tyler's note. Should I believe that he was only comforting her...? No. I can't. It can't be true.
I brush past the remaining students that stay after for the debate team meetings that Mrs. Pierson is in charge of. I quickly exit the door and hurry to my locker. Once I pass the locker in the main hall, I sharply turn the corner and my shoulder juts into a tall, broad figure.
"Hey! Watch where you're go-" I look up to see Marks broad smile.
"Sorry Amber! I'm ju-"
"Oh n-no. It was my fault. Sorry I am kind of in a rush." Mark was captain of the debate team, he and I don't talk much but damn was he attractive...in a..dorky kind of way. We used to be best friends in middle school. It was great. Until Emily and I pulled a prank on him freshman year that...crossed the line I guess.
Mark chuckles, "why are you in such a hurry?"
To avoid Emily and/or Tyler.
"Oh, I just have to hurry home to get ready for my birthday bash tonight.""Oh! Right, happy birthday!"
"Thanks," I smile...a real smile. He hasn't said happy birthday to me in any sort of way in four years. "so, do you want to come tonight, to my party?"
"I don't know...Tyler and I don't exactly get alo-"
"He isn't coming," I clear my throat, "Tyler and I are, over."
"Oh. I'm sor-"
"Don't be. Just come, I insist."
"Yeah...ok..I'll be there."
"Great! So I better get going..see you later Mark."
He smiles, "Bye." he strides away with his long legs.
I always wanted to talk to Mark again...but Stacy would flip...
I approach my locker and twist at the lock combination.
37...15....09
I pull open my locker, I grab my Math homework and then slam my locker shut. I turn on my heels only to see Emily standing before me.
"What?" I ask expressionless.
"I'm sorry. Please, I truly am." She pleads with sorrow in her hazel eyes.
"I thought being friends with someone who is having bisexual thoughts would ruin your reputation."
"I don't care! It won't! Eff the haters!"
I smirk, "Eff? Haters?...what has society done to you? Don't you mean...fuck society?"
She sighs, "I'm trying to resolve this without profanity."
"Well you failed. Don't bother coming tonight. Oh and feel free to never speak to me again." I fake smile and wave. I turn and trot down the hallway, swaying my hips just a little more than usual.
*15 minutes later*
I unlock my front door and push it open. I first lay eyes on my dads small tote bag laying on the living room floor. Next I see him tie his tie and pull his coat on.
"I'll be back Sunday," he lays a kiss on my forehead, "happy birthday love you."
My dad picks up the tote bag in his hand and walks out of the house, into his car, and drives to his hotel.
Alone. The house to myself!
I waltz into the kitchen and grab an apple and jog up to my room.
I bite into the sweet red apple while scrolling through Facebook, when I see a status update from Tyler that reads,
"Well it's official...I'm single...I want to keep trying but sometimes it's just to hard to fix relationship issues."
I frown. Issues? Ha! Issues meaning cheating on your girlfriend with her best friend for three months? Yeah, whoops.
I walk over to my vanity and set my phone on my amplifier and hit play on my playlist. Blink 182 starts blaring as loud as it can go.
I travel to my bathroom down the hall from my room and take a relaxing shower.
Once I'm refreshed, I twist the shower knobs off and wrap the towel around my body. I walk back to my room and check my phone to see that I have four new text messages.
Mark: Hey, your party starts at 8, right?
Lena: I hope you don't mind of I bring my cousin Drew from Chicago...he's hella cool tho!
Brent: I hope you like your present birthday gurlll! 😄😄
Tyler: ...I hope your birthday is fun...love you...❤️
I respond to all of the messages...
To Mark: Yep!!
To Lena: That's great! See you guys then! 😘😘
To Brent: Ohh Brent! You didn't have to get me anything!
Then I get to Tyler's...I just delete it.
I take a deep breath. Tonight is my night. I'm not going to let Tyler and Emily ruin it.
