THE TRAIN STATION was filled with dozens of families the next morning, all saying goodbye to their soldiers. Steve and Lucy stood side by side, watching as Bucky said farewell to his family.
Winnifred was a mess, crying while giving Bucky the tightest hug possible. As they pulled apart, the mother reached up to make sure that his tie was tied tight enough. It was just like she would do when he would dress up for church while he was still a toddler. Even though he wasn't little anymore, he would always be her baby.
Even George had unshed tears in his eyes. He was such a strong man who held onto a tough exterior for his family but seeing his son go off to war tugged at his own humanity. George pulled Bucky in for a hug, wordlessly patting his son on the back.
