Dark. A strange dark lies all around Harry. It's not that he is afraid of the lack of light, usually he finds comfort in its absence, but...he can tell that something is wrong.
Harry sits up, his blankets a riot of chaos around him. Another fitful night of sleep. He glances down to where his love had slept beside him and finds the space empty.
He swings his legs off of the bed, planting his feet firm into the solid floor, but when he stands up he is no longer in his room.
A night decorated with stars in hues of the deepest blues and liveliest purples cascade around him. He looks around and when he goes to take a step, his feet splash into what looks to be water but he can't tell if it is just more of the night sky or if it is just reflected along the pool's surface.
Harry takes a deep inhale, trying to settle his nerves. He realizes he is in a dream but...he has never dreamt like this before. His dreams are usually nightmares and a part of him wonders what this one has in store for him because something still feels wrong.
A sound echoes through the illustrious eternity of night before him and he can't seem to tell which direction it came from. Turning, he finds that it all looks the same.
Suddenly, a bright star falls from above and plummets into the water below him but there is no splash or disturbance in the surface. Then, another star detaches from the night sky and then another, and another, and another, until the entire world looks like it is falling and yet Harry can still hear some sound echoing in the vastness.
It's his name.
Someone, no...Kai is calling his name.
He runs. He runs and he runs but he feels like he isn't moving. His body is stuck in this sluggish drag and he can't seem to push off of the surface from which he is standing hard enough to get traction.
It's then he sees it.
Kai, no, Selene is in a cage, shadowed figures pulling the cage away from him and Selene is crying, no, howling. She's howling and the howls turn to screams and then her honey eyes connect with his and he feels terror. He reaches for her but he is so far away and yet she seems so close.
She can't go.
She can't leave.
Harry finally bursts forward, propelling himself so far forward that he loses his balance and he falls, slipping under the surface of the water or is he slipping into the oblivion of the night sky?
He can't tell but all he hears is Selene's screams. Kai's cries.
Harry shoves himself up out of the bed and heaves heavy breaths. Air whooshing in and out of his lungs as he blinks around his sun drenched room and just tells himself to breathe.
It was a dream. A nightmare of sorts and that feeling of unease settles deeply in his chest. He rubs the spot and looks down to find the spot where you had fallen asleep beside of him the night before empty.
His stomach drops.
It is a coincidence. A strange and untimely coincidence and nothing more.
"Kai?" Harry's voice is tentative and unsure. He doesn't like whatever is telling him in his mind that something is wrong. He wants the voice to quiet and leave him in peace because he finally has you. He finally told you and you are his and he is yours and what you have has only just begun.
He doesn't think he can bear it if something is wrong with you. He just wants you to come out of the bathroom or walk into his bedroom and smile at him with that wolfish grin and climb back into bed with him where you can both cocoon around one another and never part.
"Kai?" He asks into the silence again, more urgent this time but there is still no answer. Harry sweeps his legs off of the side of the bed, planting his feet firmly onto the floor. A sense of deja vu is barreling through him as he stands and walks to the partially closed bathroom door.
He reaches a hand out and wishes that he could go back to last night. Go back to being wrapped up in your arms, before whatever this was happened. He wanted to settle into your warmth and he had taken all of it for granted. He had no one to blame but himself.
His hand reaches the door and gently pushes it open to find you staring into the mirror above the sink, your hands on either side of the porcelain sink.
"Kai," Harry feels his breath change pattern, now sawing in and out of him, "come back to bed." He offers sweetly, feeling braver than he actually feels, but when you turn your head to look at him, those honey eyes are gone.
In their stead there is only dark brown.
Harry inhales sharply, his hands hang beside of him like they are weighted down, feeling horribly empty.
You open your mouth hesitantly, your dark eyebrows pulled together in confusion and Harry is pretty sure he can hear his heart shatter.
"Who are you?" You ask genuinely and Harry has no answer.
I am yours, he wants to say but instead he stands there, gasping for breath as realization pummels into him.
You are gone, like some phantom in the night stole you away never to be returned, and he is too late to save you now.
