The rocky cliffside crumbled underneath the soles of my bare feet, sending a shower of pebbles down into the crashing waves below. I caught myself a split second before I follow in the rocks' path. My heartbeat was racing, but in the way that made me excited to be alive.

"Please don't fall off that cliff. Qui-Gon would kill me if I lost his least-favorite apprentice," Obi joked from a few feet behind me.

His fear of diving off a cliff into the unknown waters below kept his feet firmly planted on the stable ground, far away from where I was balanced. I watched his fearful gaze and the way he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Oh, Kenobi.

"It's cliff-jumping, Obi!" I exclaimed with a laugh. "I'm supposed to fall off!"

I turned back toward the ocean and raised my arms. Wind blew through my hair and tousled it around my ears. It was hard to see what Obi was so afraid of. The smell of the seasalt and sand was enough to bring me up here every time we got the opportunity. Obi always asked me how I wasn't afraid to stand so close to danger and jump into water that I couldn't see into. Honestly, I didn't have a great answer for him. All I could explain was how intoxicating the rush of adrenaline was, and how the cold water feels on my skin.

He let out a deep sigh. "Just be careful, alright? I'll wait for you up here."

I whipped around to face him. The motion sent more rocks tumbling down, but I didn't care. A smile was plastered on my face as I started towards Obi. He must have seen the mischievous light in my eyes because his own eyes widened and he raised his arms defensively.

"Don't do it!" he warned, shaking his head. "I know that look, I'm not jumping in with you!"

"Yes you are, Obi! You're a Jedi, remember? How are you supposed to save the galaxy if you can't go swimming with me?"

I gently tugged on his arm like a toddler who was determined to get their way. Maybe I was acting childish, but I knew Obi would enjoy cliff jumping if he just tried it once. He dug his ankles into the forest floor when I tried dragging him to the cliffside. Even in my stubbornness, I couldn't help but laugh.

"Please," I begged him. "Just once!"

Obi wasn't used to seeing me acting like this. I had always been adventurous, sure, but I had never pleaded with him to join me. My behavior was humorous to him and made him wonder if jumping off the cliff would be as fun as I claimed it would be.

He stopped resisting my pulling and sighed. "Alright," he murmured.

I grinned wildly. "You'll do it? You're actually going to jump with me?"

"Yes," he groaned. "Let's just get this over with."

I held back a happy squeal and bounced up and down on the balls of my feet. After stripping down to my swimsuit, I took his hand in mine and guided him to the cliffside. I could sense his uneasiness about the slippery rocks, so I walked slowly in front of him, showing him where to step.

"Okay, Obi," I began, keeping my tone soft and encouraging. "Do you want to count down and jump? Or do you just want to go for it?"

He gulped. "Count. Please."

I squeezed his hand and began counting down from ten. Obi's fear only increased with every word, so I made sure to count slowly to give him more time to prepare. I sure hope he knows how to swim. I thought to myself, regretting not to ask beforehand. As my counting approached the last few numbers, Obi gripped my hand tightly.

"One," I said with a smile.

Before he could react, I jumped out and pulled us both off the cliff. The time in the air before we hit the water was my favorite. For a split second, I could feel like I was flying -- like I was letting gravity pull me through the air and rip the wind across my face indefinitely.
And then we hit the water. The cold surged around me and covered my skin in goosebumps that sent electricity through my veins.

I gasped when I came up for air, and I couldn't help but laugh at how much I enjoyed that. Obi emerged beside me, relief written across his face.

"That was actually... quite fun," he admitted hesitantly.

It was clear he was a strong swimmer (to my amazement) and could handle the waves lapping against us. Even as a great swimmer myself, I felt myself drawn to hold onto Obi's upper arm to steady myself. With a smirk, he placed his other hand on my lower back and pulled me towards him. We were both tredding water -- so it was difficult to rest against him -- but I managed to press my forehead to his contently.

"Thank you," I whispered.

It was obvious to Obi that I was referring to him finally going cliff jumping with me. He graced me with a little nod to acknowledge my gratefulness, but didn't say anything.

In a comfortable silence, we swam to the shore and sat in the warm sand, side by side. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, which painted the sky in shades of red and purple. Noises from the little birds in the trees behind us filled the quietness and relaxed me instantly. I loved these little moments Obi and I could steal together. It was a much needed break from all the Jedi training we both had been through.

"Can we go again?"

Obi's question surprised me, causing me to laugh softly. "You really enjoyed that? You're not just saying that to make me feel better about dragging you along with me?"

"As much as I hate to admit it," chuckled Obi. "Cliff jumping is much more fun that I thought before."

I stood up quickly and brushed the sand off the back of my legs. "Well, let's go then! No time to waste!"

With a smile on his face, Obi climbed up the hill behind me, wondering how I had talked him into such a thing in the first place.
