How is it that I'm always stuck in this damn situations? I wondered to myself as a Seperatist ship came crashing down from above. I know Obi and his men don't have to deal with stuff like this on the other side of the river. The hull shattered the minute it connected with the rocky ground, sending a spray of debris towards my squad and I.

"Get down!" Shady ordered.

Instantly, the rest of the clones dropped to their knees and covered their heads. I thought about doing the same after seeing the rest of the ship toppling over, but I decided against it. With a smile, I flipped through the air and dragged my lightsaber through the metal that was about to kill everyone below me. It cut like molten lava, slicing into two even pieces and falling to the sides. The troopers raised their heads at the sound of the remains of the ship colliding with the ground next to them, only to see me standing above them with the white glow of my lightsaber illuminating my features.

"Keep up, Shady." I winked at him. "I can't do all the hard work for you!"

He chuckled under his breath as he stood up shakily. "Not all of us have fancy lightsabers, Commander."

"Alright, squad!" I yelled. "Let's keep moving forward! We aren't going to let a little ship crash keep us from beating Kenobi to the rendezvous point, now are we?"

"No, sir!" they shouted in unison.

I gave them a sharp nod before running out into the battlefield, directly into the light of sight of the hundreds of battle-droids approaching. Adrenaline raced through my veins and cleared my mind. I barely even had a moment to think as I sliced through every droid I could see. My men cheered and rallied behind me, which only fueled me to destroy more.

Soon there was nothing left to destroy.

I looked back to see my squad coming together and forming up, surrounded by the metal bodies of the defeated Seperatist battalion. Sparks still came off of some of the severed wires. Shady and the men were grinning ear to ear, but I restrained myself from smiling. As much as I wanted to celebrate and cheer with them, I knew that as a Commander -- and as a Jedi -- I had to remain stoic. And I knew more than any of them that this battle was far from over.

"Let's head for the canyons!" I suggested. "With any luck, it'll give us a way around that forest."

I studied the trees as we made our way past through the field. The growth was thick and twisted, and it seemed to move with every passing shadow. Deep down, I knew I had made the right choice. There was no way we could get through that forest quickly; the canyon was our only shot. It wasn't a part of the original plan Master Windu had drafted, but I pushed that thought to the back of my mind. I was made Commander for a reason. Whether or not that reason was because I was the only Jedi available was irrelevant.

I didn't think it was possible, but the canyon seemed to be a million degrees hotter than the sunny land around us. Even in the shadows I felt my skin being pricked with beads of sweat. As we marched, my concern for the safety of my squad grew. They were tough, I knew that, but I grew up on Tatooine and the heat was really getting to me.
