He was quiet and reserved- his own matters held close to himself without letting anyone become close to him. A man of intense power, with the fragility of the great houses at his fingertips: a balance he had to maintain at all times. So how did a member of the Hlaalu family itself, become the grandmaster himself of the morag tong? He would not say, and kept his relations private.

But now you stood in front of him once more- your face once again hidden behind a cloth scarf and hood. You were silent, never once uttering a word to him. You were originally sent to him from a guild leader, with a note explaining your deeds in the Morag Tong. Ever since, the grandmaster gave you tasks to complete, with your efficiency seeing you rise through the ranks.

There you stood now, silent as always while you handed him the last thread of the webspinner. You had done all there was to do, and he was finally satisfied.

"I have no more tasks for you." He started. "It's time we discuss your final advancement. It's time for me to retire, and for you to become the grandmaster." He revealed, watching you carefully as he saw slight hesitation and shock in your body language. "Traditionally, the new grandmaster has to honourably kill the old grandmaster, but I'm old and tired, no one would question our authority if I just left." His voice was fairly monotone- discussing such a serious matter in the same way one would comment on the weather; with no real care.

You hesitated, mind racing at the situation you were now in. You were both private people, but the fact he had said nothing about himself had not once deterred your thoughts of him. Was this the end? Would you see him again? The thought itself made you dizzy, and your lips twitched under your mask as you thought of speaking.

His eyes were keenly on you, but his expression remained indifferent and calm as he studied your body language- the only language you gave him. But something happened which he did not expect, and caused him to raise an eyebrow from interest.

You removed your hood, and took off your mask from around your face, finally revealing it to him. He had a spark of shock cross his eyes as they finally got the chance to gaze upon your face which had been hidden for the entire time he had known you.

You hesitated once more, feeling your lips twitch before you finally built up the courage to speak- breaking the silence which you had always held. "I... I can't do that." Voice barely a mumble, you finally spoke to him. Shock was the only expression on his face which you could read, but you turned your head to look down at your feet, a new silence falling between you.

Neither of you knew what to do, but an answer had to be given. Eno exhaled, taking a seat on the edge of his bed. "Perhaps it would be best if we didn't." He thought aloud, and a brief wave of confusion crossed you- before you realised he read your emotions. "If we keep to ourselves, this will be easier, and we'll never see each other again. We can forget all of it, and Mephala will guide your hand as the new grandmaster of the morag tong." He explained, looking up and catching your hesitant gaze.

"But I can't forget what I didn't have..." you stated, "and I will live yet another life of regret." stubbornly withholding more information which you wished you could say without care.

His gaze softened, and he slowly stood up from his bed and placed a hand on your shoulder as you held back tears. "What will we regret more? Doing nothing, or not being able to share moments together again?" His question was simple, and you only looked down in shame and an overwhelming feeling you could not name.

You both remained quiet for a moment, painfully aware of your surroundings- be it the quiet murmurs of the guild a room away, or a clatter of armour as someone moved.

"When you next return, I will be gone." He calmly stated. You hesitantly nodded, and he watched as you removed your glove, noticing the rings you wore. His eyes widened in realisation as he saw the moon and star, fitted around your finger- for now he knew who you were and of your deeds, of your words and lives.

Your hands shook gently from nervousness, and your sight was blurry. You carefully removed the ring from your finger, and grabbed his hands and placed it in his palm, closing his hands around it. "Do not put it on, it will kill you." You mumbled, looking up at him.

His eyes glinted, and he hesitated. "I cannot take this." He sighed, uncomfortable in presence. He tried to hand it back but you stopped his hands, giving him a reassuring look.

"Keep it- it was a gift. May you remember me by it."

He only nodded his head, reaching up and holding your cheek in comfort. You both knew you were about to leave, and that would be it. You let out a shaky breath, and he held you close for a moment, pressing his lips to your forehead for just a brief moment, before you turned, leaving his vision and senses as you left the canton entirely.

You did not know how long it had been once you had returned- you had wondered far and for long to clear your mind and help the pain, and when you returned- only the memories remained as you wondered his old room, still feeling as though he should be there.

But a note caught your eye on the edge of his desk, and a small smile crossed your lips.

Perhaps you would see him again.
