I sat in the hospital room my breath caught in my throat. Mom and Dad sat in the chairs beside my bed. Mom was grabbing my hand and Dad was gripping onto the sides of the seat.
The door opened and the doctor came in. His hands were folded behind him. We all looked up waiting for the results.
" Mr. and Mrs. Matthews. You daughter has tested positive for Leukimia. "
Mom let go of my hand and cried into her own. Dad hugged her as they cried together.
" Whats Leukimia? " I asked.
" Well, Leukimia is a cancer of your blood cells. The soft part of your bones make alot of white blood cells which help you to fight of sickness and when theres too much, there called Leukimia cells. They grow faster than the good cells and the bad cells can crowd the good cells. " The doctor explained.
" Will I be okay? "
Moms heart broke as she hugged me. I could feel her tears soaking my shirt.
" Isn't it like a cold? You have it for a couple weeks and then it's gone? "
I questioned.
Mom sat up wiping away her tears.
" Lets keep our hopes up for that to happen. "• Maya •
My mom and dad sat in chairs holding hands as I layed down on the hospital bed looking up at the painted clouds and sun on the ceiling. Over and over I read the same quote placed in a white cloud.
" We will get through this together. "
They were testing me for cancer. I kept telling my mom and dad that my body was hurting and they would ask where and I pointed to my bones.
Today I did that and dad got mad and put me and mom in the car driving to the hospital. He told me that I was being dramatic and that we were going to test me for cancer so I would stop complaining and mom would stop worrying.
Here we were. Waiting for the results.
The doctor walked in clearing his throat and fixing his glasses. He held a picture of my back and placed it on a glowing white board.
There was highlighted purple in my spine.
" Mr. and Mrs. Hart. Your daughter has Osteosarcoma. This is not just pain from a bruise. This is a very serious cancer. So as you see here- "
Dad stood up and punched the doctor breaking his glasses. He grabbed his shirt collar and lifted him.
" My daughter DOES NOT have cancer. SHE FELL. "
Mom tried to pull him back but he turned around and slapped her.
Dad grabbed the picture of my spine and ripped it.
Police came in putting my dad in handcuffs and helping up the doctor.
I looked at mom who was just as shocked as I was...
