Chapter 3: Meeting the Family
The rest of the week flew by in a flash, it was Saturday morning and I couldn't be happier, which is odd for me because I'm usually really cranky in the morning. There was just something about today that made it seem so special. After, I put on some dark skinny jeans, my long sleeved crop top, and my black Vans. I feel the need to look nicer for some reason, so I straighten my hair and put on a little bit of concealer, lipstick, and some mascara. I do a quick onceover in the mirror; I grab my car keys, my side purse, and my phone, leaving my room in a complete mess. I walk down the steps and turn to go into the kitchen, in the kitchen was my brother, Christopher, my mom, Mary and my dad, Rick. They all looked shocked to see me at 9 in the morning. I walked in and got the box of Frosted Flakes, milk, and Hello Kitty bowl, I've had it since I was 3 years old.
As I poured the milk in the bowl full of cereal my brother, Chris, says "Look, sleeping beauty is awake. Where are you going to so early in the morning, are you going to go meet your prince charming?"
"First of all, it's not early it's 9 in the morning." I said while trying not to strangle him. "Second of all, it's none of your business."
"But it is our business, now where are you going, sweetheart?" said my dad while he held my mom close to him by the waist and my mom had her hand on his chest. My parents were high school sweethearts. I think it's cute, but sometimes they're so embarrassing.
I tried not to roll my eyes at them and say "I got in trouble with a teacher and so did this other kid, so they put us in charge of the exchange student program and I'm going to go meet up with the kid at his house."
My mom instantly had a smile on her face as she kissed my dad on the cheek and said "Excuse us; I need to talk to Rosie for a second." She only calls me by my middle name when she's really happy. She grabbed my arm and guided me into the living room and closed the big double doors, not leaving me anytime to speak as she sat me down and said "Okay, spill, who is the guy?"
"He's no one important, his name is Michael Gomez and he's just a troublemaker."
"Oh, so he's a bad boy. No wonder you dressed nicer than usual, he must have a big effect on you."
"Mom!"
"I'm sorry, Rosie, but it's so obvious you had the biggest smile on your face since the moment you entered the kitchen. I can tell you really like this guy."
"I do not! He's just a friend, if you can call him that considering that yesterday was the first day I've ever talked to him, have you ever taught that I could just want to look decent, today!" I said while I tried to calm down. I hate it when people tell me how I am feeling, when it's the complete opposite.
"I'm sorry, honey, I didn't mean it to offend you, if you say he is just a friend than I believe you." She gave me an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't have screamed at you." She pulled my forehead and kissed it, in a loving way. She knows how much I love it, when she does that.
We got up to open the double doors. When we opened one of the doors, we saw my dad and brother with their ears pressed up against the other door. My mom screamed at my dad and my brother saying "Rick, Christopher, what are you doing?" they quickly got up at the sound of my mom's voice. She grabbed both of them by the ear and pulled them to the island and sat them down on two stools, both whining until she let go. "Why were you two eavesdropping on us?" my mom said slightly annoyed with them.
"I had to know what was going on with Rosie. I knew you were never going to tell me anything about the subject. I know you, all too well." said my dad trying to charm his way out of this.
