Y/n rolled over to look at the time.
3:04am.
She groaned. She got herself up, making her way to the kitchen for a drink.
She stood at the island, glass of water in hand when she remembered Elijah was still there. She peered over to the sofa to see him sprawled out over it. His suit jacket, tie and shirt were lying over one of the other chairs and he'd pulled the blanket from the back of the couch over himself.
She stood there and just listened to him breathing peacefully when his breathing got heavier and he started mumbling.
"N... n.... NO!" He shouted causing Y/n to run around and kneel beside him and wake him up. This happened quite often. Elijah's past regularly haunted him as he'd done some pretty terrible stuff in his thousand years of life.
"Elijah. Elijah." She shook him awake. His eyes shot open and he lifted his head. He was sweating and panting heavily.
"Y/n." He said resting his hand on her outstretched arm. Her hand met his, their eyes found each other.
"You're okay." She stated. Elijah sat up taking the blanket off himself and turned to face her putting his head in his hands.
"What were you dreaming about?" She asked him.
There was a pause.
"It's not important." He said not looking at her. "Why are you awake? Is your head sore? Were you sick?" He questioned.
"No no, I'm fine I was just thirsty." She handed him the rest of her water.
"Here. Take a few sips. You've been sweating like crazy." She said as she used her sleeve to wipe his forehead.
He placed the cup down and leaned back on the sofa, still panting but not as hard as he was. The moon glared through the window, lighting him up. Y/n quickly wandered back to her room and grabbed a pair of men's navy blue shorts and tossed them at Elijah, once again taking her place sitting on the floor in front of him.
"You can't continue sleeping in suit trousers. You can have those." She spoke.
"Do I want to know why you have men's shorts in your closet?" He questioned.
"They're Klaus'. Just spare ones he left here once." She said looking at the ground and not at Elijah.
There was another awkward pause.
"What were you dreaming about Elijah?" Y/n asked again after seeing some obvious discomfort on his face.
"..... you. That you became the same monster as I and my siblings. That you tore yourself apart from anger and hurt that you had bottled up."
"I'm okay." She reassured him almost completely forgetting their past. She smiled looking at his chest.
"What?" He questioned.
"You're still wearing the chain I got you."
"Well of course." He said leaning forward, their faces now inches apart. "I will never stop fighting to get you back to me."
Their lips were almost touching when she pulled away.
"No I can't." She said standing herself up. "Are you going to be okay for the rest of the night?" She questioned flicking her hair away from her face.
Elijah nodded.
"Okay, I'm literally in that room if you need anything." She spoke.
"I do recall I'm supposed to the one caring for you." He smirked as he watched her walk towards the door again.
