Jay was leaning against the wall -away from the people crowding the room- on their phone when somebody came up to them. They looked up and saw a Vinkel boy with gray-blue hair. "Hey, I'm Gabe." They knew the boy was waiting for their name, but they just acted as if he wasn't there and went back to staring at their phone. Gabe stared at them with his intense green eyes and didn't go away, he was kinda scary. Jay walked away from him instead, but he followed. They turned around, "What?" They asked him. "I just wanted to ask if you were single," Gabe replied. Jay wondered if he was actually being serious or not, then walked away from him faster. He is really creepy.
Again the boy followed them. Jay teleported away from him and just when they thought they had gotten away, Gabe found them again. "Oh my gosh! How did you do that!? That was so cool!" he exclaimed. Jay didn't answer his question. They just hoped that he would go away soon, because if he didn't then Jay would probably have to kill him; which wouldn't be a big deal since he didn't seem to be from an important family.
They tried to walk away again, but this time the weirdo touched their shoulder. Instead of teleporting away, Jay turned around quickly and punched him right by the cheekbone.
They left hoping to never see that kid again. But now, seeing as Princess Aspen had gone up to him, it seemed unlikely. Jay watched as Princess Aspen helped him up, then they started dancing.
When Aspen and the weird guy were done dancing, her sister dragged her away. Jay had been trying to think of a strategy to kill Aspen but couldn't think of a good way to do it with so many people around. They had thought the party would be the best place to do it so her death would probably be blamed on some random noble, but there was no place to kill her without witnesses, unless they did it after the party.
A tap on their shoulder ripped Jay from their thoughts. It was Princess Aspen. She had somehow gotten away from Princess Alina. "Hi! I'm Aspen, what's your name?" Jay thought it was weird that she didn't use her title in her introduction but they just gave her a blank look and hoped for her to go away; she didn't.
"I was just dancing with that guy over there, his name is Gabe and he kept talking about you so I said I would come and talk to you." She nodded at the weird kid and kept talking. They started walking away and Princess Aspen ran after them, which annoyed Jay even more.
"Hey wait! Did I do something wrong?" Jay didn't expect Aspen to be like this. They expected her to be a lot more entitled. Considering her own sister wanted her dead... if what that guy in the forest said was true, then she only wanted her dead out of jealousy.
Thinking about it now, killing Aspen would cause chaos all over the kingdom, so that wasn't a good idea. They never fully agreed to the deal anyway. Jay decided that they weren't going to kill her, and they sort of felt stupid for not thinking about this sooner.
"What's your name?" Aspen asked again, still trying to keep up with them as they walked toward the snack table. Jay didn't answer. At least she was trying to be polite. It was kind of annoying that she kept following them around though.
Jay was starting to feel bad for her, she had chosen the one person at this party who didn't ever talk to anyone and didn't want to. It was probably a good thing that she had though.
They accepted the fact that she wouldn't go away and grabbed some water. Aspen grabbed a cup of water too. Eventually, they said, "Jay."
