On the way to their house, Gabe got distracted, so Jay took the opportunity to leave him in the forest. They grabbed Aspen's arm and started to run. Aspen seemed to be having fun, and she held her new pet close to her in her other arm. Once they got far enough away from Gabe, they let go.
Aspen flared her wings, run-flying. It seemed that she couldn't actually fly, but maybe someone could teach her later. "Hey, where's Gabe?" Aspen asked, concerned for him. "He probably just wandered off somewhere, he'll turn up eventually," Jay replied. I hope he doesn't though, he was really annoying.
There was someone else nearby, but they couldn't tell if they were an enemy or not. Jay spun away from Aspen and threw a knife at whoever it was. The knife passed the person, barely missing their head. The person let out a loud scream. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?" The girl asked in a mixed voice of fear and frustration.
For some reason, Aspen started to scream too. "It's rude to throw knives at people!" Aspen exclaimed as if Jay didn't already know. "I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" Aspen asked the girl. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine. But wait, aren't you Princess Aspen?" the girl asked. "Yeah! And that's Jay, and Gabe is around here somewhere," Aspen told her.
"I'm Lexie." she said. "Princess Alina just declared you dead like twenty minutes ago! Are you okay?" Jay already knew this of course, and hadn't planned on telling her, but she didn't seem the least bit upset by it.
Jay had gone to the village to find out information on what was going on at the castle, and to buy food, if Gabe ever did find his way back, they wouldn't be giving anything to him. The most important piece of information Jay had found, besides Aspen being declared dead, was that Princess Alina was hosting another party in three days.
The king and queen were worried that someone was trying to eliminate the Royal Family and had decided that the best course of action was to have Princess Alina get married, blah blah blah, it was all very boring in Jay's opinion but they knew that Alina would probably want them to be there. And Jay had to stay out of big cities or risk being dragged back to the palace.
"Never better," Aspen said, but it wasn't her usual cheerful tone. Lexie seemed to be surprised for some reason. "Shouldn't you, like, be sad that they stopped looking for you or something?" Aspen stared at her in thought. "Well, my sister was a bully and my parents didn't care about me, no one did, not really," Aspen said sadly.
She was all smiles again a second later when Jay had started to walk away and the two girls followed. They were planning to get back to their house and ditch Gabe out here. And they still have to figure out where The Midnight Sun is, which to be honest they could care less about. It was a stupid name for a stupid group and they could all survive without them. Of course, Aspen wanted to be the hero though. The hero of the story wasn't supposed to die, but this isn't a story, it's real life.
Even with the chance of potential death, Aspen still wanted to do something. Whether she meant to or not. Knowing her she probably thought they were going to win by throwing sparkles and glitter everywhere while riding a unicorn. No sooner had Jay thought this when a unicorn came bursting from the bushes! It galloped right past them as if it was being chased by something.
Three men came out at the same spot as the unicorn. The men spotted them and stopped. They looked straight at Aspen. "Now that's a fine specimen if I ever saw one, eh boys?" the first one said, referring to Aspen. "There are two problems with this. One, Aspen is not an object, and two, it is illegal to hunt unicorns," Lexie said angrily. The men looked at Lexie in a way that made Jay want to punch them right then and there.
"Now now little lady, no need to get angry, we were just having some fun," the first man said. Jay didn't like his tone, it sounded really wrong. "How do you find poaching fun? It's very illegal," Aspen said. "Are you gonna let these beautiful ladies do all the hard work, or are you gonna actually do something?" the second man interrupted.
"Let's just take all three of them and go, it will be funner if we had more than the princess," said the third man. "'Funner' isn't a word," Lexie told them, not that they cared about their grammar. They then pointed their crossbows at them. These guys are truly pathetic, Jay thought, unfazed by their bows. "Will you show just a little bit of emotion!" the second guy said, getting annoyed. Jay ignored him just to make him angry. "YOU THINK YOU'RE SO TOUGH, DON'T YOU!" he yelled. "Compared to you yes, yes I do," they said calmly.  "EXCUSE ME?!" he yelled.
"Just ignore him, we have a bigger prize," the first man said, advancing toward Aspen. "Homie, that's a girl," said the third man "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR GENDER, JUST HELP ME GRAB HER!" the first man shouted, pointing at Aspen as Jay stood in his way. "GET OUT OF MY WAY ANNOYING BRAT!" he yelled, but again, Jay ignored him. "MOVE NOW! THAT'S YOUR LAST WARNING!"
They didn't move and told him. "Why? You're too pathetic to actually do anything," When Jay didn't move he just pushed them out of the way. He could easily just walk around me instead of pushing. Oh well.
The man reached toward Aspen and then yelled in pain. Jay had broken the man's arm. They then slammed him on the ground, breaking his nose. They then looked at the other two poachers. Jay stepped on the man's broken arm. I most likely taught him not to harass people, I should probably do the same to the others. Jay teleported to one of the others, grabbed a knife, and broke one of his ribs with the handle. The last one tried to get away, what a coward. He didn't get far before Jay broke his leg and then tased him.
"Why is everyone- JAY WHAT DID YOU DO!?" said a familiar voice. Oh, it's HIM, Jay thought, putting their weapons away. Gabe had found them. It was hard to hear him since these pathetic poachers were screaming as if their pain was way worse than it actually was. Jay knocked them out before they could draw any other attention. "OH! That's Gabe!" Aspen told Lexie. "Um...hi, I'm Lexie," she said, still processing what happened. "Hi," Gabe said passively, "Jay you can't just do that!"
Jay knew that of course, but they had a good reason to hurt the idiots. Jay started walking back to the house, ignoring Gabe. Just then the unicorn came back and stopped in front of them. Jay wanted to walk past it but Aspen walked right up to it. "You're so pretty!" she said excitedly. "I came to thank you for stopping those meanies." the unicorn said. "My name is Sparkles."
Jay wondered if this was actually happening or not. "Just kidding! That's the name of my cousin!" the unicorn said. Jay started walking in the other direction. "Hey, wait!" Aspen called after them. Aspen grabbed Jay and brought them back to the talking unicorn. "The Midnight Sun sent me to look for you," the unicorn explained. This made Jay pay attention. "My real name is Glimmer!" the unicorn said excitedly. That really is a stupid name, so I don't think it is lying about being sent by the group.
"That's mean!" Glimmer exclaimed, offended. Jay gave her an uninterested look not even phased. "What did they say? I didn't hear them say anything." Aspen said, confused. "OH YEAH! I can read minds, all unicorns can actually" Glimmer said. "They think my name is stupid!" Jay didn't really see what the problem was and didn't actually care. Glimmer seemed to notice this and let it go. "Hop on my back so we can get to the Midnight Sun!" she said.
