Clyde: "Well Jesus Christ. That came out of nowhere."
me: "I..I'm sorry."
Great. I knew this was a bad idea.
Clyde: "Wait...Tweek...you don't plan on hurting yourself do you?"
me: "No. I don't."
Clyde: "Are you sure? Look, a lot of people care about you, and-..."
me: "I'm not going to hurt myself Clyde."
Clyde: "Oh...okay. No wait...look me in the eyes and tell me that-.."
me: "I can't do that man, this is a phone call, remember?"
Clyde: "Hehe, oh yeah. Whoops."
I couldn't help but laugh to myself. Clyde could be pretty funny sometimes.
Clyde: "But uh, what exactly do you mean by talking about death? And like.... how it affects people? Is something bothering you?"
Yes Einstein. Of course something's bothering me. Everything is going to complete shit.
me: "Yeah um....something kinda is bothering me. Can I uh...can I ask you just one question?"
Clyde: "Absolutely. Go right ahead."
Don't hold back. Just say it.
me: "Why didn't you, Jimmy or Tolkien show up to my dad's funeral? And why haven't any of you guys talked to me about it? Why are you all acting like nothing has happened to me? The only person who seems to care is Craig, so what's everyone else's excuse?"
Clyde: "Well that's uh...that's more than just one question there Tweek."
me: "No shit Sherlock...but do you m-mind answering me? I'm serious."
Yikes. That came off meaner than I wanted it to.
He fell silent on the other end of the line for a few seconds, probably contemplating back and forth what exactly he should say.
Clyde: "Tweek, I don't know if this is the answer you want or not, but..."
me: "I want the truth."
Clyde: "The truth....the truth is that this is all my fault. I'm the one who advised everyone not to go to your dad's funeral and to not talk about his death in front of you."
me: "You...you what?"
Clyde: "I'm so sorry."
I couldn't believe what was coming out of his mouth. Clyde was the reason no one would talk to me about my dad?
me: "I...I would expect something like this from someone like Tolkien, but you? You're the nicest person I know....this isn't like you."
Clyde: "I know, and I'm so, so sorry."
me: "Why would you do this to me?"
Clyde: "Because I know how it feels to be in your situation."
me: "My s-situation?"
Clyde: "I know how it....I...I know..."
I could hear his voice begin to shake as he tried his best not to choke on his words. He sounded as if he were about to dissolve into a puddle of tears.
me: "Clyde...I.."
Clyde: "I know how it feels to have everyone butting their way into your personal life and constantly reminding you of the one thing that you wish you could just go back in time and change."
