I Can't Believe I Like You

Haley grins wickedly and puts a finger over her mouth.

"Shh I wanted to give the lovebirds alone time"

"So we could eavesdrop" I say, starting to understand.

"Duh"

We sneak down the hall and hide behind the door. I strain my head to make out what they're saying.

"Your friends are lovely" I hear Steven say, amusement in his voice.

"They're something else" Edith says fondly, I can practically see her shaking her head. They laugh and then there's just silence.

"I said that I was your boyfriend"

"I heard"

There was some more silence and I pressed more into the wall, desperately trying to hear what was going to be said.

"Am I?"

"We haven't gone on a date yet.." Edith's voice trails off and I hear someone clear their throat.

"Right, of course, I don't know what I was thinking"

"I'm sorry Steven, this is so awkward I do like you but I don't want to be official until we know more about each other and go on a proper date" Edith explains, sounding guilty.

"I understand, I can wait for tomorrow"

I hear more laughter and I let out a breath of relief. I hear Edith start to say something else but then Haley screams.

"SPIDER SPIDER SPIDER" Haley yells, waving her hands frantically. I scream and run into the living room where Edith and Steven are both looking shocked and surprised.

"DIE YOU SPAWN OF SATAN DIE DIE DIE" I hear Haley yell and repeated thumps of something being slammed on the ground. Me, Edith, and Steven all share an amused look and walk towards where Haley is bending down.

"HALEY WHY DID YOU USE THE TOASTER?!?!" We all yell.
