It was early in the night, and everyone was in the clubhouse, finishing up their dinner. A low rumble was heard in the distance, signaling there was a storm coming.
Astrid looked out at the horizon immediately after, a low creeping feeling sinking to her stomach.
The last storm they had here on the Edge, was the time when she went blind. She thought that strike of lighting could've been the last thing she'd ever see.
The feeling that came upon her, which was something she had never felt, which was an uncomfortable and ugly feeling, it was fear. Astrid, of all people, feared the storm.
Meanwhile, the gang was talking to each other. "Looks like there's a storm brewing," Hiccup commented, looking outside. "The dragons are all safe I think, so there's nothing to worry about."
"Oh, goody!" Tuffnut exclaimed. "You guys want to play some games?"
"Uh, no, I'm not in the mood tonight," Hiccup replied, standing up.
"Yeah, I'm going to catch up on my beauty sleep," Snotlout commented, and walked off to his hut.
The twins were muttering between themselves and walked off to their hut too, and just as they did, the rain started to come down hard.
"Oh, it's getting hard out there!" Hiccup said.
Fishlegs got on his dragon, and the two of them flew out to their hut, and just as they did, the sky lit up in lighting and then a clap of thunder was heard, a lot louder this time.
The scared, fearful feeling sunk to Astrid's stomach again. The feeling of fear itself scared her too. Astrid? Fearful of a storm? Astrid "Fearless" Hofferson?
"I'm going to head to my hut now, Astrid," Hiccup commented, getting on his dragon. Just as they rushed out, he stopped by the doorway. "Astrid...you okay?"
She nodded solemnly. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, her arms crossed, looking away.
'Did something happen?' he wondered to himself. He headed out, shaking the feeling off, leaving a timid Astrid behind.
Lighting striked again, and Astrid ducked her head as the loud thunder sounded. After that, she rose her head back up slowly. "Oh my..."
She looked toward a sleeping blue dragon on the floor, and headed to her while keeping her eye on the weather outside.
"Hey Stormfly," she said as she pet her. "Let's go to our hut."
They hurriedly rushed out, Astrid under Stormfly's wing which served as an umbrella, and within the next minute, Astrid entered her hut and laid down on her bed.
"Oh Stormfly, what's wrong with me?" She wonder aloud as she saw the Deadly Nadder settling down on her slab.
Astrid sat up, and put her legs up and propped her chin on them, worrying every time a strike of lighting lit.
Ten minutes later, the rain was lighter, but the thunder just the same- but that didn't matter, because Astrid wasn't afraid of the rain- it was thunder.
Suddenly, a tap was heard on her doors. Astrid jumped and screamed in surprise. "Aahh! What is it?"
The door opened, and in peaked an auburn curly head. It was Hiccup. "Astrid?"
She sighed of relief. She needs to shake this feeling off. The fear's putting her on edge.
Hiccup walked in, and sat on the bed next to his girlfriend.
Even though the horrible ordeal the day Astrid got blinded by the storm was, the only miracle they got, the both of them got, was that they finally became a couple. They started dating. No one knew yet, they've kept it secret, which was one joy they've had while having a relationship.
Hiccup put his hand on Astrid's knee. "You okay? I noticed you were a little...I don't know...off."
"Hiccup," she started, as she sighed, and put her legs over the bed and sat next to him. "What's your life like? I mean, the emotion you feel?"
Hiccup furrowed his brows. "What do you mean?"
"Well, you're different than me. You're more sentimental, I'm, well, I was built to be strong. What's it like?"
Hiccup sighed, and looked down. "Astrid, if you're feeling any emotions, that's totally okay. I know you were raised not to, but it's normal. It's good."
Astrid sighed, and laid her head on his shoulder. "Thank you," she breathed, making Hiccup smile.
Another thunderclap was heard and she flinched, and Hiccup looked down at her. She sighed. "It's just...ever since the day I...the day I lost my sight, that I got blinded, I just...I've been so afraid...of these- of these... storms," she got out, but so embarrassed to admit it.
Hiccup nodded in understanding. Even when Astrid was expecting him to say something against it, like to say "man up, you're a viking!" speech, he didn't. He raised her chin up off his shoulder, and hugged her. "Don't worry, everything's going to be okay."
With that sentence alone, she almost wanted to cry. That sentence- she got the man she deserved. The man who will listen to her with no objections. Who loved her.
She hugged back, as the thunder was striking again, and quietly replied, "Thank you."
