The Cliff

The breeze ruffled Hiccup's hair and whipped across his face as he stood upon the edge of the cliff. He looked out at the horizon, the sun going down, expecting to see something- but knowing he won't.

It has been an entire week since all the dragons of New Berk left for the Hidden World. Hiccup served as chief as well as before- he thought- but it was biting inside him. Life without Toothless? He can't. Yes, he has Astrid, and she does comfort him about it, but she isn't the exact person to do that job since she misses Stormfly just as much.

Vikings on Berk hadn't exactly gotten used to things yet: Their best dragon friends aren't by their sides in the morning till night, and they realized walking takes longer going to places. They look and dart around expecting their dragon to be there, but nothing. They see something that reminds them of their dragon, but only a shadow. By the end of the day, each viking probably goes to their hut to cry out their eyes and deny it when asked about their baggy eyes because of their strong, Viking pride.

As Hiccup looked upon the ocean down below him, rocking in to the shore, silent tears fell down his face. This cliff will always remind him of that one evening last week- and will never see it different. After a moment, Astrid approached him.

"Hey Hiccup," she greeted softly, putting her hand on his shoulder.

"Yeah?" he asked, a bit raspy due to his silent crying.

"I know it's been a week since..." she said, her sadness showing through her soft voice, "but um... I just wanted to see how you were doing."

"As expected," Hiccup responded. "Just really sad on the inside as I carry on with my responsibilities."

Astrid nodded. "Yeah, me too," she agreed. She looked out at the sunset before continuing. "I... I don't know what to do anymore. Without Stormfly... it's just so weird without her, no flying, playing, comforting each other."

Hiccup nodded solemny. "I know. I feel exactly the same. New Berk is so different..." He trailed off, looking down at his feet.

Astrid placed her hand on his shoulder. "But we're here together, and we'll get through it together."

Hiccup looked back at her and smiled slightly, and placed his hand in hers. He nodded. "I don't know, Astrid... I don't know how to get through every day... Every day especially as chief... Like it never even happened. I just force myself through every day like everything's right in the world. But I can't do it, Astrid."

Astrid placed her hands on both of his shoulders and turned his body toward her. "Hiccup, if you need any help... You can always ask me or Valka for help."

"I know, Astrid, but..." Hiccup stopped as tears began to fall. "I just miss him so much." He leaned in and hugged Astrid, as tears began to fall from his emerald green eyes. "I miss him so much... I miss all of them. All the dragons."

Astrid comforted him in the hug, and nodded. "I know. I miss him too, and Stormfly. I miss them both. But we'll get through this," Astrid comforted as tears began to fall out of her own eyes.

As the sun began sink below the sea, the two Vikings warriors sobbed in each other's shoulders, thinking about their loved ones at The Hidden World.
