I stayed with Killian for many days. He cared for me, sneaking leftovers from meals to me, and I slept in his bed with him; the only awkward bit was getting changed. I changed in his shower (yes, he had a shower attached to his room, the privileged git), but once, I opened the door too early and caught a deadly flash of the long, pale arch of his back, where his spine poked out like stone hummocks, and the skin laced with silvery scars like spider's webs... I had blushed profusely, shutting the door as quietly as my speed would allow.
And Terror! That little draconic beast. She liked to be in the shower, and had learned how to open door handles, and once the dragon surely opened the door and came inside while I was changing! "Terror, you Terror!" I had gasped, and tossed the naughty creature out, and shut the door immediately. I was unsure whether Killian had seen anything. But then, though a whispering hiss, I had heard him say: "Theresa, you indescribable thing! You made me glimpse her in her undergarments. Her undergarments, Theresa! My poor gentleman's decency!"
But, thankfully, he mentioned nothing of it, and neither did I.
My horns and claws disappeared on the second day. Killian told me he'd forged a story that my uncle was very ill, and I had to go to care for him - until I felt ready to face school, and tell my awful story to someone. Who knows? Maybe other people have the same story. Maybe Majestio could be brought to his justice.
But until then. Killian kept me busy, he taught me spells in the evenings, simple ones to master and slowly more complicated ones that he'd been taught in the lessons I was missing. I learnt the combustion spell, the shrinking spell, the shadowmuster spell, and I was even creeping on the voice-throwing spell. Killian brought me books to read, too, while he was at class. They were sorcery books, specifically on the specialty of 'take over' magic.
Take over magic has no set of specific forms, as the range is so fantastic, and different for every user. Many magists even have several forms that they can transform into; or, can absorb other creatures to gain the ability to transform into them later. Mine was not 'complete takeover' as the book stated, as my whole body was not changed, but it said that it could grow to be, once I harnessed its power more. It also said that other powers related to the monster you transform into can be acquired.
I tried hard to transform again, but I couldn't bare to relive my traumatic experience. I tried to just think about transforming, but the only results I achieved was the flesh around my wrists going slightly scaly. Still, it was something.
On the fifth day, in the evening, with Killian there, I transformed again. We were both elated of it, and hugged - but quickly separated. We still hadn't talked about the dreaded kiss, and since my first arrival, things had been more awkward. We were mostly silent, communicating with nods of thanks and comforting smiles. Speaking with unsaid words again. In bed we faced away from each other. I hope he didn't read my mind.
We did continue to research my powers, though. I discovered my claws could actually be poisonous, if I focused them to, and a drop of green venom would drip down the claw. It meant that any injuries inflicted with it would take far longer to heal. I hoped I had poisoned Majestio. I hoped his face would be so hideously scarred forever. After the first day, Killian actually brought me the good news that Majestio looked absolutely disgusting after I had severed his face, and that the skin around it was puffy and green. He also said that Majestio had told everyone he'd acquired the injury from an eight-foot creature in the forest that had scratched him while he was trying to save a fallen bird from his nest. What a sugary, teeth-rotting lie. What injustice it was that he could just carry on life, feeding a hero's lies, completely unafflicted, after what he did to me. While I couldn't bare to see even a friend's face.
