"What," Persephone was the first to say, "the frinx."
I had cried a bit more in Killian's arms, and then bid adieu to Fae, and we had gone to the commonroom, where my friends were, to finally tell them the news.
Haha, I think, that awkward moment when you have to convince your friends that you're wildly in love with the man of whom you've loathed your entire knowing of him and spilt many tears over.
It took a very long time of convincing, between much laughter and disbelief. But I think I could convince any person in the whole world right now.
I was so terrified to tell them the news that, could you believe it, Killian really bottled his boast and told them straight for me! I loved him for it. They were shocked and dare I say, in horror. They though it a prank at first. But I laughed in the relief of the unveiling and promised them I loved him with all my heart. Still, they couldn't get their heads around it - which was entirely understandable.
"Are you mad?" Morgaine had honestly asked. "Have you lost her head?"
"Really?" Gilbert had said. "Haven't you always hated him?"
I had to assure them not, though there was much truth in both queries.
I was most stressful for Gray's reaction. He was quite silent, silent with his hands in his lap and his eyes on the ground. He didn't tell me how he felt, but the dull grey of his hair more did. I asked Persephone what it meant: she told me, sorrowfully, "sadness and disappointment."
I wasn't hoping him to say anything. And he didn't. And that was okay: this hurt was on me. There was nothing I could do for him. I hoped one day he would forgive me.
But otherwise, things, I supposed, had gone better than expected. Thankfully, they had no opposition to Killian now that they saw he cared for someone other than himself and his guise, and that the firmest layers of his meanness had been stripped down. They were still guarded, of course, but that was expected. Persephone at first was so against it. But Killian apologised profusely, and with such sorry manners that it could have been comical. Persephone found it more funny than touching, but even so I think she, perhaps not fully, gave him forgiveness.
After our grand reveal we sat with them a bit, but Killian still didn't know them, and they hadn't quite left their state of shock. So, we bid them a good holiday, and then left to let them discuss the matter amongst themselves once we couldn't hear. Killian and I only laughed and hoped they were saying nice things - even if they were in disbelief.
Unsurprisingly, news got round fast. This time, it got round like a fire on a matchsticks. By only the time we'd finished last period, every face we passed gasped once they saw us, and began to either gossip or confirm gossip they'd heard.
The look on Kenzie's face was most satisfying of all. We passed him in the corridor, hand in hand, and he stared, blinked a little, his mouth open, quite unable to speak. With Tatiana draped over his side and her mouth on his face (poorly trying to hide the fact that they had gotten back together), he stared at us instead. It was the first time he'd seen me since the ball... and with Killian holding my hand! So highly rewarding a reaction! I hoped he assumed I was with Killian on the night of the ball, while he with Tatiana. That he thought he was cheating me, when in reality I cheated him first. Hoped he thought he didn't hurt me.
He began to say something to me as we passed, but I flicked my eyes at him for a second, and leaked all my uncare and boredness into that look that when I looked ahead again, having not stopped walking, his words dissipated away.
I wondered suddenly how Killian had interacted with Kenzie and Tatiana while I've stayed out of school... they were always his best friends, after all... have they talked and snided and caused mischief the same as ever? Despite Kenzie and Tatiana getting together, and bruising my poor heart? Or did he gallantly and suavely ignore them, in punishment or simple distaste? I did not know.
