Just as Aelius had said before leaving her room, he knocked on her door once the moon was up in the night sky.
Valeria allowed him in. She was dressed in her chemise, ready to sleep once more. When Aelius walked inside her room, she noticed he was holding something which was almost as big as him.
Valeria stared at the large teddy bear before speaking, "...Is that from the time we went to the Empire?"
Aelius nodded, placing it down beside her bed, "Yes, it arrived while you were still unconscious."
"I see...thank you for bringing it here."
He shook his head, "Wife, you don't need to thank me. I'm just doing what I should do."
"Oh..alright then."
Valeria assumed he would leave once he finished doing his business here but he stood there, looking at her.
"...Is there something you need?" Valeria questioned, letting her hand roam around the top of the teddy bear.
It was soft and nice to touch.
Aelius opened his mouth before closing it shut. She raised an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to speak.
He took one step closer to her, taking in a deep breath before carefully saying,
"Are you...are you really okay?"
"You have been asking me the same thing. Yes, I'm alright now."
Aelius wanted to pry further but looking into her eyes, he swallowed down his words, letting his worries quietly grow inside.
Her father's words repeated in his mind like a broken record yet he couldn't say anything. The way she looked at him made him feel warm inside though her eyes held a blank expressionless look in them.
Valeria kept staring at Aelius wondering if he was going to say anything else but he bid her good night and left just like that.
Her brows furrowed. What was the point of making her wait for a long time just to say one thing before leaving straight after that?
She could tell there was something on his mind but she couldn't know what it was unless he told her.
That night, Valeria felt a bit restless, wondering what he wanted to say to her but in the end fell asleep not long after she rested her head on the pillow.
When she woke up, a thought flashed through her mind. Did Aelius find out she was dying? How did he find out? She hadn't said anything about it.
Valeria paused, gathering her thoughts once more.
Shouldn't he have found out long ago? Did her family hide the fact away that even the duke didn't know?
The more she thought about it, the more she felt something was off.
Surely before they got married, the previous duke would have checked her background and past before approving the engagement.
She knew for a fact that in order to marry into a higher rank family, they would at least check their background, past, behaviour, and so on to see if the candidate is up to their standards.
Valeria sighed and officially thought to herself that she will never understand the way aristocrats and nobles think.
Myra came into her room and got her dressed up.
As she got dressed, Myra told her that Keith had advised her to take a walk once a day as her body needed some exercise after lying in bed for more than a week.
