Moving On And Moving In

"So I'll come by tomorrow with my brother to pick up the last few boxes and Richard, is that okay?" Debby asked. The coffee in the mug in front of her was cold, long forgotten after jumping into conversation with Josh. The two had decided to go out and get coffee after they both got back from their parents houses for Thanksgiving.

"Oh, yeah, totally," Josh replied. His coffee mug was empty. He loved it too much to forget about it even if all of his attention was on the story Debby was telling about her nieces and nephews. "Tyler and I will be more than willing to help if you need us too."

Debby smiled. "Now, speaking of Tyler, he mentioned to me over the phone that you two were gonna go on some big adventure? What's that about?"

"Oh yeah," Josh smiled. "He and I were gonna go travel around the country after Christmas. Make memories, have fun, do stuff that doesn't involve binge eating pizzas every time we get bored."

"That sounds like a lot of fun. Are you guys sure that you'll be okay the whole time? Like, not meaning to be rude or anything like that, but things tend to happen to you two a lot. You get mixed up in things a lot and I want you guys to be safe."

Josh laughed. "We'll be fine! It's me and Tyler, everything will be great!"

"Really?" Debby questioned. "Because last time you two had this great idea to go adventuring you ended up in South Dakota and stole some guy's car."

"Hey, now that was an accident!" Josh defended himself. "That could happen to anyone."

Debby smiled. "I'm sure it could."

"It totally could!"

"Look, Josh," Debby said as she reached out and held his hand between hers. "I just want you guys to be safe and think everything thing through before you go along with it. Well thought out decisions are the best decisions."

"I know, I know," Josh sighed. "We'll be fine though, really."

"Just don't steal anymore cars," Debby joked.

"That was one time and it was an accident!"

"Of course," Debby laughed. "Anyways, I need to go so I'm not late for work. I'll see you tomorrow for those boxes around 10."

"See you tomorrow," Josh replied. He stood up and gave her a hug before sitting back down.

Ever since Josh got over the initial feeling of "oh my gosh we broke up", he had noticed how much happier both he and Debby had been. The first few days had been a little rough, but now, things were great. They were still close and they still hung out, and sometimes Tyler even joined them as well. Nothing was awkward and nothing was tense. Everything and everyone was happy. The only one who was really suffering was Richard, but she complained about everything, as most cats do.

The one thing that was recently bothering Josh was his apartment. Now that Debby had mostly moved out, it felt empty. It was too big for one person to live in by themself. Josh didn't need the two closets in his bedroom. He didn't need the larger bath. The extra room that Debby used as a studio was of no use to him, and he only ever wanted the bigger kitchen because Debby loved to cook, or well, try to cook. She was way better than him, but she was still pretty bad.

Without Debby to share the space with, Josh felt a little lonely, and there was no way Richard needed all that space. Plus, he couldn't afford to keep the place with just himself living there. He needed a roommate, but he didn't want someone he didn't know to move in with him, especially when he would be leaving on a trip with Tyler so soon.

Josh sighed and left the small coffee shop and headed across the street back to his apartment, except, he didn't go into his own.

"What's up," Tyler called from the kitchen as soon as Josh walked in.

"Just thinking about stuff," Josh replied. "What are you doing?"

Tyler stood up straight from where he had been bent over a pot on his stove and smiled. "Making Jello," he said proudly.

Josh nodded. "Okay. Why are you making Jello?"

Tyler smiled even bigger. "Why not."

Josh opened his mouth to say something else, but no words came out. Instead he just nodded, which apparently was the right thing to do as Tyler nodded as well and went back to the pot.

"So," Tyler said after his bowl of Jello was in the fridge, "What have you been thinking about?"

"Well, firstly, I can't keep living here. I's too expensive and I don't have the money sine I'm not splitting the rent with Debby anymore."

"So you should get a roommate."

"Yeah," Josh sighed. "But I don't want to find some random person to live with. And plus I'll just be leaving soon with you to go on our trip."

"Well," Tyler paused as he thought, "Then move in with me."

Josh looked up at Tyler. "Really?"

"I mean why not? You practically live here already."

"Good point," Josh mused.

Tyler nodded. "And I have that extra room that I just keep a desk and books in out of hope that one day I'll read them. Or do something with them. Getting rid of them to make room for you would be doing something with them, so yeah, why not?"

"Yeah, alright. I guess I'll go talk to the people at the front desk," Josh said.

"Okay," Tyler replied. "And I'll go throw away those books!"
