~Ella~"Did you guys just have..SEX?!!?", I couldn't help but shout at the top of my voice.
"Lower down your fucking volume. If incase you forgot, Sophia also stays with us.", she whispered and I shook my head unable to comprehend what was going on.
"So you mean you guys had sex.", I whispered, this time being mindful of Sophia."Unprotected sex ", she corrected me and I couldn't restrict myself from hearing as to what had actually happened.
"I hadn't got my periods for the past three months. I wasn't afraid though, thought it to be a result of my PCOD's, it was some time later that I realised that I was infact pregnant. That Ivaan will be becoming a father and a 18 year old girl will now be someone's mother.", she smiled sadly.
I was afraid for her. I just couldn't understand as to how she managed to deal with everything just by herself. How she mustered the courage to fight against the world world, while she herself was still just a tiny flower, fighting its way to survive the harshness of this cruel world.
How could I leave her like this?
How could I leave her out here, in the cold, defenceless to all her miseries, for a said crime which truly didn't even pass for one.
'If only I could've called her up that time' and with that I gulped this guilt down my throat.
She told me that it had been four months since Ivaan had last visited her. She hadn't told him the news, she didn't want to scare the life out of him over a phone call that would only last over a few minutes
"I was planning on telling him when I see him the next time in person.", she sounded low saying that, as if finally letting the burden off her chest.
Inhaling a breath of fresh air, fully knowing she still have miles to go.
Despite of completing her graduation, pregnancy was another thing that kept her mentally , physically and emotionally drained.
She had to continue living her life through the day, with a life inside of hers, who deserved a fair chance of caring and nurturing, while her own body had been and will continue to experience some drastic changes too.
When Ivaan had come to meet her, she dictated the news to him.
"He didn't say anything for a while, too shocked to say anything at all, and then proceeded to peck my forehead,
"We'll get through this as well", he had said and I knew that I've chosen the right person to fight through my battles", she explained, while I couldn't even begin to imagine how it would have been for the both of them. For a fact I knew they weren't exactly happy about it. I don't blame them, nova was 18, on her way to be 19, ready to welcome another of her own kind into this world.
They didn't have any option of abortion as such when they learnt about the pregnancy three months later.
Ivaan was tensed, he had to build his own life ahead of him which alone wasn't going to be easy, but now he also had a pair of small eyes looking upto him, clutching onto his hands with its tiny fingers, depending on him.
"We came back to India, to convey this news to our families and convince them for our marriage. Ivaan knew his parents would accept us, they had loved him unconditionally and they wouldn't leave his side for anything in the world. But as we reached there, they were disappointed. Disappointed for the fact that Ivaan's career had been in risk for something which was going to mark a permanent shift into all of their lives, but they still supported us.", she said and a smile crossed her pale cheeks.
She had been incredibly brave. That smile treasured her cheeks like a brave battle scar.I wish I could've been by her side.
When Nova turned to her family for support, in the hope that they would finally support her for once in their life, when she needed them the most, they abandoned her. They didn't accept her, rather called her names, declared that the only daughter they had, was now dead to them.
Neither did Uncle David accept their marriage.
Why would he? His reputation had been in stake as the rumours of his niece being pregnant at 18, spread across the town like a wildfire. She had become a laughing spectacle.
"Your niece is such a characterless bitch, someone had remarked the other day. That day he returned home and used his leather belt on me"
I could feel the heaviness and hurt in her voice, her own blood had betrayed her and shamed her for something which was beyond her control.
"I decided not to live with him anymore after that day. With the help of Ivaan's family, we left the place and shifted to the capital of the country."
"It hadn't been easy for us. Nobody was willing to give a full time working job to two undergraduates. We were far away from all the people we knew of, Ready to start a new world, that in itself was our light at the end of the tunnel. What we had wasn't enough, but we were enough for the too of us. The baby in my womb gave us the will to look forward to a brighter future. I was grateful."
I wish I could've been there with her, I wish I could've been there for her. I thought, but at the same time I was astounded by her courage to face her own problems with a brave front.
"We are happy to have Ryan as our child.", she whispered her last sentence to which I nodded with half attention.
My mind was still processing all that I was told, I was lost in my own thoughts, when I realised that she mentioned a boy.
"Wait? Ryan?", I chocked on air, and gave her a confused look, while she led out a laughter.
"Yes, Ryan. He is my son. The only biological baby I have."
"Wait then what about Sophia?", I asked her, my eyes giving her the most comical yet shocked look ever. I needed my way out of this confusion.
