Sam is having the worst day of her life.
First off, she's pretty sure she's got a cold. She hadn't stopped coughing, her nose was running and she honestly felt like she was on the verge of actual death when the floor below constantly spun with every step. It was like trying to walk on water, Sam thinks. Or being stuck in that feeling right after coming off a carnival ride with a full stomach and you're never sure if you're going to either faint or hurl.
And to make matters even worse, the moment Sam steps inside school she's summoned to the principal's office through the PA system because apparently, keeping even a sliver of her dignity was just impossible. So after a walk of shame to the office, with all eyes on her and whispers trailing with her every step, she walks in to find that apparently, she wasn't the only one beckoned to her doom when her eyes land on Kate, sitting in front of Mr. Bronson.
And god, Sam absolutely hates him. Put aside the fact that he looks like a washed up boyband member with a belly, he was just notorious for being greedy and getting into some sketchy shit. Plus, his highlights were so uneven it made Sam's head hurt just looking at him, and don't even get her started on that sad attempt at a five o'clock shadow. Sam had seen better facial hair on a fourteen year old.
"Ms. Fraser, take a seat." He says, voice low and stern as Sam takes a breath before approaching. She gives Kate an apologetic look, eyes locked even until Sam takes the spot right across her.
"I'm telling you, it was self-defense." Kate speaks up, frustration twisted in her every word as she crosses her arms over her chest.
"Self-defense? You hit a student in the head with a tray." He replies incredulously.
"She was assaulting me verbally." Kate fires back, she's got that determined look on her face, lips pursed and brows furrowed as Sam sat quietly, her heart lodged in her throat.
"Ms. Fraser, care to tell me about what happened yesterday and why exactly I've got Ms. Hayes' parents calling me at the dead of night screaming my ear off about their daughter coming home with a bruised cheek?" He turns to the blonde, a stone cold glare that makes Sam feel so uneasy.
"Self-defense." Sam replies, reiterating Kate's words and giving her a look.
"Really? That's what you two are going with? Self-defense?" He sardonically chuckles, leaning back as he runs a frustrated hand through his hair.
"She started it, she was instigating. You can't expect us to just do nothing." Kate chimes in, never faltering from looking at the man who seemed to have already picked a side.
"I expect you not to assault somebody, Kate! And you, wasn't she your friend?" He exclaims forcefully as he looks over at Sam. Neither one flinches, truthfully, Kate thinks he looks pathetic trying to be intimidating in that dollar store suit.
"She's not my friend." Sam instantly replies, her hands clasping the armrest so tightly her fingertips had whitened.
"She's terrorizing me! She's terrorizing my friends- do you even have any idea what she's done to Deena-" Kate snaps, all her self control flying out the window as she's cut off by a bitter chuckle.
"Oh, so this is what it's about? Ms. Johnson? Well there's no use saving her now. She's been suspended and you're getting dangerously close to going down that same path." He warns emptily, but his words strike Sam and Kate to exchange a surprised look.
"Why the hell is she suspended? Anna's the one who should to be suspended!" Sam pipes up, her emotions spilling past her filters as she looks at him in disgust.
"Mind your tone, Ms. Fraser." He seethes.
"She broke into Deena's locker; she ruined her stuff. You won't draw the line with destruction of property and bullying but you do with self-defense?" Sam presses, venom swimming in every syllable that tumbles from her tongue.
