Deena wakes up to a heavy weight on her chest.

And no, it's not the sad kind of metaphorical weight, it's quite literally something heavy on her chest. Then she's being shaken, it happens so violently Deena could have mistaken it for an earthquake, an earthquake in the form of a teenage boy named Simon standing over Deena and giving her chest compressions like she was dead or something.

"Clear!" Simon exclaims, hitting a stirring Deena with a pillow square in the chest.

"What the f—"

"Clear!" Simon cuts her off once again, going in for another hit when Deena catches the pillow and rips it out of his hands.

"I'm going to kill you." Deena says sharply, tossing the pillow aside and scrambling to her feet when Simon runs out of the room snickering like a kid.

"Are you fucking kidding me, Simon!" Deena screams, stumbling out to the living room where Kate was, plastered on the couch with her feet perched upon the coffee table.

"Told you i'd get her out." Simon beams proudly, plopping down next to Kate as Deena groans.

"What the hell is this?" She mumbles, running a frustrated hand through her curls as Kate sets her feet down on the floor and leans forward to settle her elbows upon her knees.

"It's an intervention." Kate says with utter seriousness, hands clasped as she offers Deena a tight lipped smile.

"At seven in the morning? Really?" Deena turns on her heel, heading to the kitchen where she finds a platter of food waiting on the table.

"You're up and i'm starving, so if you'll excuse me." Simon slips past her, going to grab a plate and finding a place on the table while Deena looks at the set up in confusion.

"You didn't do this?" She asks as Kate walks in, doing the same as the boy who was already plopping bacon onto his plate.

"Nope. We got her and it was just there already. I thought you did?" Simon mumbles throuth a mouth full of food as Kate takes the spot next to him, already shaking her head.

"How could she have done it? She was asleep, moron." Kate grumbles, going to pile food onto her plate as Deena reluctantly takes a seat. She spots a little torn up piece of paper wedged under the big platter of food, so she hastily takes it out to read what was written.

'things will be different now. love u, leave some for josh. - dad'

"So whats it say?" Kate hums as Deena crumples the paper, getting up to toss it in the trash beneath the sink as she goes to pour herself some coffee.

"From my dad." Deena replies quietly, sitting back down across her friends.

"Oh shit, yeah. We met him last night— well, not really meet him but he like... talked to us. With words and stuff." Simon shares in amazement, with Kate giving him a harsh nudge at the way Deena's eyes were almost glued to her cup of coffee.

"Don't mind him, but where were you last night?" Kate quickly cuts in, veering the topic away from something Deena was clearly uneasy about but also because they were genuinely worried.

They drove around for hours until finally giving up, Simon even contemplated calling the police. Neither one of them could properly sleep, so when the sun rose they decided to just spend the day with Deena. It wasn't like school was anything to look forward to, not since Anna's reign of terror begun. Even Kate was willing to cut classes, and Kate never does.

"I went for... a walk." Deena clears her throat, reaching to grab a piece of bacon as Simon and Kate exchange looks.

"A walk? We literally drove around town thrice looking for you." Kate says, suspicion lingering in the way Deena couldn't even look her way.
