An Unexpected Turn

"Cal, your phone is ringing" I groaned and leaned over. I grabbed my phone and answered.

"Hello?"

"Hello! Hello! Is that seriously all you have to say Cal? I havent heard from you since you left! I had no idea if you were alive or dead! Why didnt you call?"

"Leila, baby, I messed up big time didnt I?"

"Ya think, what gave it away?"

"I've been really busy with this case, and I'm so sorry. I don;t have any excuses, and I'm not gonna make up any"

She sighed. "Don't let it happen again."

"Yes ma'am. I love you"

"I love you too. So today's the big day?"

"Sure is. I'm nervous"

"You shouldn't be. I know you'll do great"

"Thanks hun"

"I gotta head to work. Promise you'll call me when you get out of court?"

"Cross my heart, and hope to die" She giggled before hanging up.

"You love her?" I jumped and fell off the bed.

"Oh shit, Ax. You scare-"

"You forgot I was here"

"Yeah, I tend to not remember my name in the mornings"

"So thats how you act when I'm not around?"

"Axel, I'm married to her. I can't just get a divorce that fast. Plus I told you I loved her. We were best friends in college. The nerds no one wanted to hang out with"

"I was your best friend first"

"I'm in love with you, Axel. If you dont believe me, I'm sorry" I seemed to messing up everything lately.

"Oh hey baby. Shit. I didn't mean to make you cry. What you said was true, I'm just jealous."

I didn't even realized I was crying. He wiped the tears off my face.

"Axel. We can sort everything out before I leave. I'll tell her if thats what we decided. I'm not keeping you a secret. I'm an adult now."

"I know Cal. I know" He kissed my cheek and pulled me back on the bed.

"Its 6:30. What time do we have to be at court?"

"7. So we can get everything settled."

"Aww so we can't fool around in the shower?!"

"Nope" He pouted and I laughed.

Jaidens Pov

It was almost time to head inside the court room and Dal was hypervenalting. I was chewing my nails.

"What did I tell you?" Cal asked the both of us.

"To calm down. It doesn't look good if we're nervous" Dal muttured.

"How so? This woman put us through hell. Excuse the hell out of us for being nervous!" I snapped.

"Do you want to show her what she's done? To give her that satisfaction?" He retorted.

I had never looked at it that way.

"No. I don't want that. I want to show her I'm stronger" Dal said sounding better.

"Same here" I said.

"Then lets go" Cal walked in first. Axel pulled me into a hug before motioning me inside.

Calvins Pov

The petite jury was deciding her fate as we speak. Jaiden was sitting next to me, I could feel his leg bouncing up and down. I put my hand on his arm, and his eyes snapped to mine. We were both nervous about this case, and frankly I was about to shit myself.

"It's going to be okay," I whispered.

Jaiden nodded, "I just hope you're right when you say that."

To be honest, I hope I was right too.

Jaiden's POV

We finally got out of that hell hole, and I could finally breathe. Being in that place was just a nightmare, and I was glad that the case was finally over. The jury found her guilty of child abuse on one account and assiting on two account. The judge couldn't put her in jail just for that though so she got off. She just has a year of community service and parole. Calvin, Axel and I found a café near the courthouse, and decided to go there for some coffee. Dalton and Grams had some other things to do, so they bid the three of us goodbye, and started walking away, leaving Calvin, Axel, and I alone.

We walked into the café, and ordered our coffee. Once our cofee was ready, we sat down at a table, and started talking.

"You okay, Jaiden?" Calvin asked.

"Yeah. I'm just glad this is all over." I chuckled.

"I'm for you man. You know that." Axel said and I smiled at him.

After we finished our coffee, we left the shop and started walking, and talking again.

"Calvin," I started. "I just wanna say thank you. What you did in that courtroom means a lot to me."

"Of course. It's my job, and like I said before I've never lost a case." He smiled.

And without thinking, without caring that Axel was standing right there or who else was watching us, I planted my lips firmly on his.

Calvin's Pov

I was so glad we had won the case. Jaiden and Dalton deserved justice. We got coffee to celebrate but I just wanted to go back to the hotel with Axel. The case was over and I had to leave in two days. I was so confused on what to do. I didn't to hurt Leila or Axel. 

We were walking back to our cars. I felt myself talking but I was somewhere else. Until I felt lips on mine. I felt my heart jump and knew it had to be Axel. Why was he kissing me in public? The kiss was short and he pulled away. I pouted and opened my eyes. It was Jaiden. I started at him in shock. I looked over at Axel. He was fuming. 

"Uhh, I'm married Jaiden."

"Yeah. Sorry. It just kind've happened. It won't happen again. I mean you are gorgeous but you're loyal. Thanks for everything Calvin. If you're ever in town we should hang out." He said walking to his car. 

I turned to apologize to Axel but he grabbed my wrist and drug me to my rental car. 

"Axel I wasn't paying attention. I didn't know it was him." I tried to explain once we were in the car. 

"I know that's what scares me. You only act that way when you kiss me. You feel the same way about him. You don't even know him. Go home Cal. To Leila and never come back. I will always love you but I will not watch you be with someone else. Plus Jaidens right. You're married and you love her. You may love me more but still. Be loyal."

"I'm not leaving you Axel." I begged on the edge of tears.

"I don't want you Cal! You don't know what you want. I don't deserve that." He yelled before looking at me. 

"One more night." He whispered pressing his lips to mine.
