Your POV
My head snapped to where the sudden noise was heard, to see someone on a dirt bike - performing wheelies before the bike charged at us at an alarming speed down the hill.
The mysterious person was heading straight for my sister, as she screamed and lifted her dowsing rod in self-defence. The tires of the bike kicked up dirt, dust and mud as it flew past me, a few splats of mud painted my knees.
"Get away from me!" She cried out, I reached for her however she smacked to the mucky ground before I could grasp her, as her dowsing rod slipped from her fingers when the biker yanked it from her.
The boy jumped from the bike and onto the stump in front of us, his mask looked very unique, seemingly built by him. He turned the handle from the side of his mask and magnetised his view it seemed. Observing my sister's terrified expression for a moment, until his eyes landed on me.
He seemed to examine me more closely, and for a bit longer - turning the handle to magnetise me in different variations. After having a staring contest with the boy, he finally raised his helmet.
The boy had a tanned complexion, probably of mixed ethnicity. The boy had coarse, curly, dark brown hair and hazel eyes, despite looking pretty, his posture was not. He slumped over as his head dangled down.
"Let me guess. You are from Texas or Utah, some place dried-out and barren, right?" He looked over at Coraline, who was scowling at the boy. Her clothes a bit dirty on the side she fell on. His eyes landed back on me, his smile stretching when he focused on me
"And you, England? France maybe? Some place nice. Perhaps a bit posh" he stated, I couldn't help but smile slightly. He was probably talking about my somewhat formal clothing
"I've heard about water witching before, but it doesn't make sense. I mean, it's just an ordinary branch" he gestured to the stick in his hand, examining it a bit. Coraline budged in, correcting the boy
"It's a dowsing rod!" She retorted, hitting his leg. He hissed in pain and clutched his knee, dropping the dowsing rod in the process.
"And I don't like being stalked! Not by psycho nerds or their cats" she stated as she caught the rod as it fell.
"He's not really my cat, he's kind of feral. You know, wild." He corrected, bending down to stroke the cat
"Of course, I do feed him every night, and sometimes he'll come to my window and bring me little dead things" he added with a cheerful smile on his face. Coraline was obviously done with the situation
"We're from Pontiac." I clarified, motioning between my sister and I with my index finger
"Huh?" Coraline budged in
"Michigan. And if I'm a water witch then where is the secret well?" She stomped, the ground beneath her seemed oddly loose
"You stomp too hard and you'll fall in it!" He motioned to the ground beneath her, I snatched her away as he jumped down from the tree stump. His gloved hands clawed at the mud and pried himself an opening, to reveal some planks of wood.
"See?" He clarified, his eyes glancing at us. He knocked on the wood, the well giving a deep and hollow "thunk" with each time his knuckles made contact with the wood.
"It's supposed to be so deep, if you fell to the bottom and looked up, you'd see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day." He explained in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Holy shit.." I whispered
"Ha." Coraline acknowledged, observing the well with an interestes gaze. The tanned boy walked over to me
"Surprised she let you move in. My grandma, she owns the Pink Palace - won't rent it to people with kids" he stated, this sparked my curiosity
"Why? What do you mean?" He shifted uncomfortably and avoided eye contact
"I-I'm not supposed to talk about it. I'm Wybie, Wybie Lovat" he changed the subject, sticking his hand out for me to shake, which I accepted.
"Wybie?" Coraline repeated, shaking his hand as well. Sticking her tongue out in disgust for getting mud on her hand
"Short for Wyborn, not my idea of course. What about you?" He asked me, I replied with a soft smile
"(Y/n) Jones"
"(Y/n) huh? Nice name. And what did you get saddled with?" His body turned to the blue haired girl, she scowled harder and crossed her arms over her chest, not liking his wording at all.
"I wasn't saddled with anything, it's Coraline."
"Caroline what?"
"Coraline! Coraline Jones." She corrected, stomping her foot. He looked at the two of us with a raised brow, and slight interest.
"Ah, sister's. I feel bad for you, (Y/n). Also, it's not real scientific, but I heard an ordinary name like Caroline can lead people to have ordinary expectations about a person." He informed Coraline, smugly. Coraline growled at him in anger at his comment, until a shrill voice called from afar.
"Wyborn!" We heard a woman call out in the distance, it was Coraline's turn for a witty remark
"I think I heard someone calling you, Wyborn." She slowly marched towards the boy, her hands balled up to make a fist. Wybie wriggled uncomfortably, looking worried as he avoided any eye contact
"W-what? I didn't hear anything"
"Oh I definitely hear someone, Why-Were-You-Born" I grabbed her hair and yanked her back, recieving an "Ouch!" From her
"Leave him alone, Cory" I scolded, another calling for Wybie echoed in the distance. He whispered to himself before chuckling nervously and showing a forced smile. Trying to keep his cool.
"Sorry about my sister, she's a little bit feral too" I joked apologetically with Wybie, he chuckled softly, calming his nerves about the lady calling for him. His little laugh made me feel all fluttery inside. He made his way over to his bike, sliding his mask on his head but not covering his face.
"Well, great to meet a Michigan water witch, but I'd wear gloves next time" he wiggled his gloved fingers, Coraline tapped the branch in her palm repeatedly
"Why?"
"'Cause that dowsing rod of yours, it's poison oak." He answered, she immediately dropped the branch with a gasp. Wybie chuckled and turned to me
"I'll see you around, peach" he smiled before driving away, leaving me frozen in the spot with a bright, blood red face. What did he just call me?
"Ew, what a fucking geek." Coraline muttered to herself, wiping her muddy hands on her yellow raincoat.
"I say, looks like you've got a thing for him" she smirked, nudging my shoulder with her elbow and winking. I rolled my eyes and pushed her away
"Shut up..."
