No real goodbyes

By the next morning, everyone knew what had happened to Gilbert's father. And within days passing he had grown silent. Becoming aggressive when constant condolences were poured at his feet. He avoided people when they came to the door, he stopped participating and his grades plummeted. In all, he didn't care anymore. He was fighting to make a decision he had already made time and time again. Grabbing his things off the desk he walked out of the class quickly grabbing his hat as he stormed out.

A confused Alice shot up after him looking at George with a pleading smile, "Get my stuff." He sighed agreeing as she began to race out the door. She was fed up with his bull shit. Her words, not mine. She called out to him a few times with no response, "Blythe.....Gilbert...Gilbert....crazy idiot!" His accent grew somewhat heavy as she became annoyed with him. Running up to him she would grab his shoulder. Before she could speak he grabbed her wrist looking at her, "Leave me alone Alice." Letting go of her he walked off. She wanted to chase after him, she wanted to run after him and curse at him for closing her out and for closing out the community that loved him.

But she held herself back because she knew the place he was in. Even if she hadn't been alone after her parents passing, she felt like it. But it wasn't about her now and it wasn't about her feelings. She knew there was nothing she could do to comfort him. He needed to be alone and she needed to respect that. For someone as overbearing as Alice, it hurt her to stand there in the wood unable to help him. Holding herself back as the trees engulfed the sun. Walking back towards the school house slowly she didn't speak.

Grabbing her things from George's hands she then too stayed silent. The skip in her step was gone she was too busy worrying. Although it was useless to worry over something she can't change. She decided for herself that she wasn't going to worry over it for too long. That she wasn't going to waste her time waiting for something that she couldn't help.

Within days Blythe was gone, leaving nothing behind but a few short goodbyes and a small note on Alice's doorstep. Tightening her bow she gave a drawled sigh annoyed at how late they already were. The triplets tumbled down the stairs each fighting the other for a place in line. Racing down the hall Alice could hear the stumbling and stomping from the door. Crossing her arms she heard cursing from who she assumed to be George.

Reaching the door the boys fixed their shirts not speaking to Alice. After what had happened at the church the boys had been preoccupied with trying to help Emma out with a plan to make this all go away, to make the family seem normal. Alice herself was preoccupied with trying to figure out Gilbert and what was going on in the attic room.

Walking out the door quickly she noticed a small yellowed piece of paper out of the corner of her eye. Moving towards it she motioned the boys away, "You guys go ahead I'll catch up." Liam laughed as they walked away, "Don't come crying when you're late Hearts."  She waved his comment off picking up the note. She read it slowly, and a few times, the writing small so it could fit the ripped paper:

Wait for me.

                Blythe,
She smiled down at the note at first not knowing what he meant. Within the next few hours, she would know exactly what he meant. He had left with only leaving behind a note and for her no real goodbye. He was too afraid if he looked at her for longer than just a second he wouldn't be able to leave. And if he saw her over a few days he wouldn't be able to push her away anymore.
