By the next morning, Theo knew what Alice had done. Thanks to Ruby Gills the whole town, not a very large one at that, suspected that Alice had set the fire on purpose. Murdering her parents out of spite for not allowing her to go to a dance, many versions of the reason had spread only getting more obscure with each installment. Alice sat in the large kitchen of the Daisy estate her head resting in her hands. Her gaze followed her pacing older brother as he opened the dark wood cabinets slamming them behind him.
He made a sharp turn towards her setting a short whiskey glass on the table, "What in the god awful bloody hell were you thinking? Do you know the rumors that are spreading about you, about us?" Theo was never one to drink he mainly kept to only drinking tea on special occasions. In his voice, he held the same sharp tone their mother had always held with the children when they made trouble. He looked away from her towards the aged bottle beside him. She sighed before saying, "I don't see why you are in such a tizzy over a little incident, and if it's the rumors your so worried about they always blow over in a day or two."
He looked up at her his eyes full of rage behind that the slightest hints of disappointment. Theo was normally only disappointed in Alice never angry. He was against most forms of punishment that involved yelling or scrutiny seeing as they can be degrading. Normally Emma was the one to take over punishment when it came to the younger children. She was more like a mother to them than a sister. She always had been even when they had a mother. Their mother was kind yes and full of love for each of her children. But carrying a nasty drinking problem that left her at times in a state where she become hidden from her children.
Alice shifted in the dark oak chair still laying her head on the island, a large wood structure with a wonder full marble across built by their grandfather to give his first wife more space for parties. Theo straightened his posture his hands wrapping around the glass cup, "Hearts these kinds of rumors don't blow over in a few days. A few months even. Do you even understand what attention can do to our family? The things it will bring to light! The ways this could disgrace the family name, your name." Alice didn't take being screamed at well. It was her natural reaction was to be sarcastic, "Have you told Emma yet? About what I've done, about how I've ruined the family. About how I'm a terrible child."
Before he could utter a word she sat up staring at him, "I didn't do anything except stand up for my brother. Stand up for the family I have seemed to solely ruin." Pushing herself up from the table she shook her head. As she stormed out of the kitchen Theo stared down into the cup. His grip tightened around it the cold golden rime pressed against his skin. As if his hand wasn't his own he lifted the glass slamming it against the counter. Pieces went everywhere falling from the counter and spreading to the floor. Deep red blood dripped from the glass-filled gash in his palm. His eyes widened realizing what he had done.
The click of heels filled the room. A soft touch pressed against his arm, " She's just a child Theodor, you can't expect her to know how to handle secrets like ours." The slight hint of a French accent hung in her voice. Lilian moved her hand from his arm walking towards the sink. She jumped slightly up towards a cabinet to grab a towel, "Theodor the last thing she saw of her parents was the look in their eyes. They both knew they weren't all three going to survive, so they choose to save her. Theodor, Alice blames herself for their deaths, she already believes that she ruined the family."
Lilian was the only person who called Theo, Theodor. She also didn't believe in beating around the bush. She would rather say something how it is than say it sweetly. Nor was she oblivious she knew everything that went on. As she had when she lived with her parents. Something she hadn't done for long seeing as by the time she was sixteen she had moved out to live with Daisy's. Well to be more realistic Lilian was thrown out of her parent's home for a plethora of reasons. She was a nice girl she was it's just as she found who she was she began to rebel. Hiding her true self inside drove her mad.
Theo opened his hand so that Lilian could wipe the blood away. He didn't say a word rather he just stood staring at the line in his hand. He listened to Lilian while she sympathized with him and yet scolded him.
