Two days until Christmas, only forty-eight more hours until...the greatest explosion of Christmas on this side of the late 1800s. Christmas was always a big deal in the Daisy household. Everyone got one present and even when there were no presents there was always some form of a roast. An exceedingly large meal, one their father always made. But this year, the Daisy children sat in the study, spread around some part of the study. No one spoke.
Alice was staring at the desk, and finally made eye contact with Emmitt. They both looked at each other worried, he made a quick point toward Theo. Alice shook her head pointing at him. Emmitt in return scoffed before speaking up, "So if I might ask what in the bloody hell is going on?" Emma had a sharp quick tone her feet swinging over the edge of the desk, "Language Emmitt." It was silent again after that. The floors creaked as everyone seemed to simultaneously shift. Alice muttered, "Not creepy at all."
"It's not that hard to say, it's two days till Christmas. Our first Christmas without Mum and Dad. It is not that hard to say Mum's first birthday after she died," George said sharply. "You don't have to be so blunt," Emma argued.
"But he does have to be blunt, Emma our parents are dead. Our mother will never see another birthday, she will never have seen another Christmas. That is our reality, and that is what we must move on past," Liam spoke up.
"Move on?! How do you move on from the death of your parents!" Emma screamed, "You all act as though nothing happened that night, Liam the last thing you said to them was I hate you. The last thing all of you did was bluntly hate them to their faces! Now, look where we are stuck in Avonlea except this time without our parents!" The room went silent, none of the children wanted to move to Avonlea. They all had friends and personal lives back home in London. But after their parent's death, it seemed only right to do as their mother wished.
Alice got up off the floor, she wasn't going to listen to this. She wasn't going to put up with Emma blaming her and her siblings any longer. By the next morning, they were all orphans but nobody expects to wake up to that. She had to remind herself for so long that it wasn't wrong of her to be upset about a big move between countries, she had to convince herself it was okay to be upset that they moved continents. Alice was done blaming herself, and she was done being blamed.
Theo grabbed her wrist stopping her from leaving the room. Alice looked down at his hard gaze, even when his sister was blaming him he showed no feeling. "Alice, please you can't just run away every time someone says something you don't like," Theo protested. "I'm not running away Theo, I am simply giving up. If Emma wants to blame us all for the fire then she can but that doesn't mean I have to sit and take it any longer. Christmas for us is over so I will be attending a friend of mine's Christmas," Alice said harshly.
Emma scoffed and crossed her arms, "You're being dramatic Hearts, Christmas isn't over it's just going to be different is all." Alice pulled her arm out of Theo's grasp and looked back at Emma. "Let me make one thing clear, you are the most depressing lot of people to be stuck around during bloody Christmas. You Emma are the most horrid woman I know, we all protect you and we all try to respect you but you Emma have no respect for the fact that we are all also grieving!" Alice said, gradually getting louder the angry she became.
Alice stormed out of the house, not taking anything with her but the clothes she had on. Which was the Christmas dress her mother had bought for her, Lily told her she needed to try it on. The dress is long, slim fitting, and dark red with little gold emblems around the seems. The dress was perfect, but now the dress is stained with mud, and the ends of the long sleeves balled up in her fists. Last year when Alice got it she said she felt straight out of a renaissance painting, now she just feels stupid. Snow started to fall as did the joy of Christmas in Daisy home.
