Chapter 66 - Second Female Lead (3)
Shu Bai was in an extremely bad mood and was pale like moonlight spilling over the snow in a cold winter day.
Her parents didn't die, but her father was a gambling addict and her mother was a drug addict.
Many a times, she only wished that they were dead.
Shu Bai knew better than most that she would not make a good actress.
She suffered from extreme inferiority complex and was afraid to stand in front of others.
Plus, there would never be flowers that'd grow out of her dust.
Yet her mothers used drugs day and night. No other salaries would be high enough to support her addiction.
Her thought process was simple. She saw how glamorous stars were and how much money they have to throw away and sent Shu Bai down that path without giving it much thought.
Shu Bai had no idea why her life was like this but, facing all of the misfortunes that had followed her since the day that she was born, she only felt tired physically, mentally, and also a lot of helplessness.
The ball and chain called fate was attached tightly to her ankle and ruthlessly dragged her toward the deeper part of the pit.
When she finally decided to give up on her stubbornness and her bottom line in exchange for what was very important to her at this point in her life, she had not only lost everything overnight, she gained nothing in return.
Liu Pei never looked her up again after the incident.
Not even an apology, or a comforting word.
Liu Pei never warned her that this was a high-risk affair.
This time, Shu Bai really wanted to give it all up.
It was already the end of the year before she knew it. It was snowing a little bit and there was a thin layer of snow on the road. The entire city appeared to be serene and nice.
When Chi Ying accepted the role of second female lead in "Sting Me", the news quickly spread around the entire campus. The original novel "Sting Me" was extremely popular. So popular that even those who didn't read novels have heard of it. Chi Ying had become very well-known around the film academy. She attracted a lot of attention no matter where she went.
Zhao Wan and Chi Ying walked side by side on campus and their faces red from the chilliness. Straightening out her collar and sensing the burning look from all directions that were unaffected by the weather, Zhao Wan smacked her lips and said, "Even though the filming of 'Sting Me' hasn't even begun, I could already imagine the day when you are well known nationwide."
Chi Ying reached out her hand to brush off the snow on Zhao Wan, smiled and said, "Well, okay, I hope you are right."
After she had fallen ill in her previous life, Chi Ying never thought she'd have the opportunity to act again. Even if she didn't become a famous star in this lifetime, she'd still feel content.
"Perhaps you were right about waiting to sign with any company. Finish up Director Gu's movie, then finish up 'Sting Me'... there will be better companies extending their offers to you," mumbled Zhao Wan. "Ying, do you want to go to Oushi?"
Chi Ying smiled and shook her head.
Zhao Wan was surprised. "But you declined Huanyu when they extended their olive branch to you. Isn't Oushi the only company better than Huanyu in the country?"
Chi Ying went silent for a little bit then said, "I want to go to Tianyi."
Zhao Wan raised her brows. "Tianyi? Xiao Hang's company?"
After a little while, Zhao Wan seemed to have figured out something. She walked in front of Chi Ying, her eyes narrowed into a slit, and gave Chi Ying an evil smile. "Oooooh, I see ~~ is there something going on between you and Xiao Hang~~ you never tell me anything!"
"No, of course not. Not everyone is like you." Chi Ying smacked away Zhao Wan's index finger that was pointed at her and pull Zhao Wan back next to her. She then said solemnly, "Xiao Hang had told me about their company policies in the past. It sounded pretty good to me."
Zhao Wan leaned in and whispered into her ear, "For example – it didn't say you can't be in a relationship?"
Chi Ying shoved her a little. "Why wouldn't you believe me? I am going to ignore you if you keep making stuff up."
Zhao Wan gave in and stopped teasing her. "Alright. Alright. You win. You win."
