Mekai POV

I drove down the road. To where? No idea. Tears filled my eyes and I had to pull over since I couldn't see anymore.
My stomach was in knots, my head was hurting, my throat had a lump, my entire body shook, and my heart broke. I lost my person. Over some fucking drugs. I lost the love of my life over some niggas weed. I let that shit get too far. Aaron was dead within a few months, but I knew it was too soon to pop back up. I kept stalling until I had a vivid dream about Sage and my kids.

FLASHBACK

"Hey bubba." Sage kissed me as I walked into my house. I was so confused.
"I missed you." I said as she kept tracing circles on my chest.
"I missed you more, why did you leave me?" She asked looking up at me.
"I didn't baby, I was always watching." I smiled kissing her.
"Come on." She said dragging me outside to her car. I got in and we drove to a graveyard.

"Why are we here?" I asked nervously.
"Just wait." She said softly and brought me over to 6 graves in a row. I read all of the headstones and they had Sages, Meijais, my moms, the twins and MJs names. My heart stopped.
"I'm-" I started but she wasn't there anymore. I stared at the graves and a tear slipped down my face.
Then I woke up.

FLASHBACK OVER

That was my wake up call and I knew I had to make shit right. I drove my family away and lost myself in the process. I'm no longer Mekai. Ion know who I am or why I'm even here if I can't be with her.
"Fuck my entire life bruh." I sighed hitting my head on the steering wheel.
"I'm so sorry Sage." I sniffed feeling tears falling down my face.
"Please forgive me, Lord." I begged running my hand over my face.

I picked up my phone and went onto Meijais contact.
"Yo?" He said as it connected. I didn't say anything at first and just got my thoughts together.
"Man fuck these prank calls-"
"Don't hang up bro." I sighed and the line went silent.
"Bruh." He laughed.
"Who is this forreal?" He asked raising his voice.
"It's um.. Mekai." I said looking out the window.
"Hold the fuck up," He chuckled.

"What?" He added.
"FaceTime me real quick." I said and moments later I saw his face. Nigga looks totally different.
Scars on his face, tattoos on his neck and his dreads were way longer.
"What the fuck bruh?" He yelled as his eyes got wide and he stared at me.
"I'm alive." I nodded and he hung up.
"Im so fucked bro." I sighed rubbing my temple and throwing the phone in the backseat.

I needed to see my kids if that was the last thing I did. I made a u-turn and sped down to Sages house. I knew the twins damn sure wouldn't remember me and MJ would be freaked out.
I noticed her car was gone. I sat in the driveway and laid back, waiting on 3 pm.

Sage POV
Few hours later

I drove back home and my car was silent. My mom ended up picking the kids up so I had a full afternoon to myself. I was about to get so drunk! I grabbed a handful of my Popeyes french fries and pulled into the driveway, but the same hellcat was in my spot. I realized it was Mekai and sighed getting out the car. I still wasn't ready for this.
I knocked on his window and he looked up at me and immediately opened the door.
"Why are you-"
He cut me off and hugged me tightly, and I felt tears soaking my shirt.

"Mekai..." I said softly, rubbing his back.
"I'm sorry for everything I've ever put you through Sage. Cheating on you, lying about any and everything, ever hurting your feelings, making you feel any kind of way about anything that I've ever said or done. I'm sorry about leaving you to take care of 3 kids by yourself, lying about something as serious as my death and anything else in between. I need you, Sage." He cried looking deep into my eyes.

I couldn't say anything. I knew he was genuine but in my heart I still wasn't ready to just jump back into our relationship like nothing happened.
"I-I forgive you.. for everything. But there's got to be some kind of boundaries. I don't think you should see the kids yet, especially not MJ. He's not ready for that and he's too young to understand what's going on. I'll allow you back into my life only." I sighed wiping his tears.

"I'll take that. I'll take anything." He nodded holding onto my waist.
"So um, I gotta go.. I know you don't want me around the kids yet so-"
"They're not here." I interrupted.
"Oh, so would you mind if I just.. stayed and talked with you?" He asked stuffing his hands into his pockets.
"Not at all." I smiled locking my car doors and shutting his. We walked to the door and I opened it, locking it behind us.

"Do you still like Patron?" I asked walking into the kitchen and he nodded.
"I probably shouldn't be drinking though." He shrugged sitting on the couch.
"Why?" I asked pouring myself a glass of mixing it with some cranberry juice.
"It'll clash with the antidepressants I'm on." He explained and I nodded. I didn't think it was that bad.
"I've heard those make depression worse." I said sitting across from him.
"Yeah but, not much else I could do." He shrugged laying back.

"I wanna help you." I said truthfully.
"Huh?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
"I wanna help you get better Mekai. I don't like seeing you like this.. I'm not used to it. I want you to be the old Mekai that lit up every room he walked into." I gave a small smile and sat next to him, grabbing his hand.
"Thank you ba- Sage." He smiled and rubbed the back of my hand.
"Have you eaten today?" I asked and he shook his head.

"Mekai." I pouted and got up walking into the kitchen.
"I haven't had an appetite." He chuckled.
"I have some.. shrimp, salmon, steak, and chicken. I could make some shrimp scampi if you like that?" I asked looking at him.
"That sound good as hell." He smiled. I smiled and pulled the shrimp out, putting the bag into a bowl of water to thaw out.
"So what kinda job you got?" He asked sitting at the island.
"I work for the state." I shrugged.

"I hate seeing you working." He laughed and shook his head.
"And why is that?" I replied leaning over the counter.
"Cause I should be taking care of you and our kids, it shouldn't be just you." He sighed leaning back.
"I actually love working. I get some time to myself and I'm not always around them, all moms need that." I shrugged and started taking all the ingredients out.
"That's good." He nodded and I continued cooking. I honestly couldn't believe I was talking to Mekai again.
