Chapter Twenty Eight
Katrina's Pov - 22 Years Old
There was a moment of silence. Shock engulfs me as I struggled to comprehend her words. The few words that completely unnerved me and had me wheezing for breath. No. I couldn't have an attack right now.
"How do you know." I whispered.
"I saw everything." Her lips uttered with dread in her eyes.
My heart broke. All over again. Mia.
Oh my god.
"What the fúck are you saying!" I pulled at her shirt and made her face me as I clutched her throat and gripped her hair harshly.
What the hell was she doing when my sister was fighting to live!
"There was a man, I was coming to meet her. He pushed her in. They were arguing and he — I just saw — I mean he shoved her in and I knew Mia couldn't swim. It's because I told her the kids made fun of me for that too. I knew that if I ran towards them, I'd just be wasting time because I couldn't save her anyways so I ran and tried to find someone who could help! By the time I got back it was too late but I saw him push her. Nobody else was there."
I grabbed her again and roared. "Why didn't you tell someone she was killed! Why didn't you say anything to the cops!"
"They threatened me and Alex." My anger immediately cooled down as I heard his name and my heart dropped.
I gripped her shoulders lightly, "Cassandra this isn't happening. Tell me this is a fucking joke. How did they threaten you. Did you see the man." My heart raced as I ran through all the possibilities.
Cyrus. It was fucking Cyrus. He isn't dead. How is he not dead.
"Okay so I went home because I wanted to tell Alex everything so that we could go to the cops and we have money so I wasn't worried about any kind of trouble. It was so scary though. The gardener, Mark caught me when I got home and told me that if I didn't keep my mouth shut we would both be dead. I wasn't scared of him. I was scared because they knew what I was doing every second. I would get texts when I was in my room with detailed explanations on what I was doing. That's when I was realised that this wasn't something normal. I couldn't risk it. Not when someone in my house was involved too. I knew that Alex wouldn't sit still if I had told him and he was already going through so much so I never did."
She opened up her phone and looked at me sadly. "The video that you have, of me faking it. It wasn't because I wanted attention from Alex. It was the opposite. I needed Mark gone and I realised how deadly this was becoming when Mark was killed a day later. He would never commit suicide. He was corrupt. I know for a fact that I'm constantly watched and that means that you are too. He got to me and that means he already has eyes on you. Whoever that man was, he had something to do with Mia and I'm guessing it's because you killed Cyrus."
Even the mention of his name made me shiver with fear that I couldn't hide.
"Yeah I know his name. I couldn't take it when you told me you killed someone so I looked up everything a few months later and that's when I got a video. Someone sent me a video. I'm so sorry Katrina. I'm so fúcking sorry." Her hand quivered as she handed me her phone with shame all over her features.
"What are —" I trailed off as my eyes focused on the video being played. They're all hastily recorded. Really badly.
Me. When I was five, six, seven, every age he had me. They're all videos of me. Him using a flashlight and ripping my legs apart to thrust it in me as my blank eyes rolled back into unconscious. I look like a corpse. A small barely noticeable figure under his heavy weight.
