As usual, I was laying on the couch reading, Taylor was finishing up her homework.
"Lex, can you help me with this?" Taylor leaned back over her chair to look me, her long red hair falling around her shoulders. "Math."
"Yeah, okay." I put my book down and walked over to her. "What's the problem?"
"2x+5=25 x=7, true or false."
"It's all in the problem. What's 25-5, then divide that by 2."
"I'm so stupid," Taylor said realizing how obvious it should have been to her.
"No your not. Your brain's just tired." I went back to the couch.
Our living room was brightly decorated, light grey, and bright blue with a bit of gold-bronze here and there. On the wall on each side of the mantle where height lines, one for Taylor, one for me. The mantle was filled with pictures of both of us and our Dad, Kyle. My favorite picture was of me and Taylor, last year.
Taylor's red hair was falling in her face (as usual), highlighting her red-brown eyes. We were wearing a two-person Christmas sweater. Taylor's half was an elf, with it she wore red and green striped leggings and pointy-green shoes with little bells on the tips. I was standing next to her with my sandy-blonde hair pulled back in a curly ponytail. My dark glasses accent my crystal blue eyes. My side of the sweater was Santa. With it, I wore red jeans and my black combat boots. The background was a snowy Santa's village and a plastic sleigh next to us.
Right as I reopened my book Dad called me. "Lex,"
"Yeah," I sighed closing the book and walked into the kitchen.
"The school called. They want you to show some kids around tomorrow." Dad said.
"Okay, cool. What time do they want me there?"
"Eight."
"'Kay." I went to my room. My room was a bit like Taylor's, we both had beds, a few stacks of books, and some posters. I had a desk covered in work in progress stories, Taylor had a fold-out table with stacks of sketchbooks and drawings. I have a couple of Bluetooth speakers, Taylor has an army of stuffed animals.
I plopped down on my bed and pulled out my phone.

I put my phone on the charger and went to my dresser pulling out a dark blue t-shirt and faded jeans.
"Taylor, want to come with me tomorrow?"
"No." Taylor looked up from her sketchbook. "Why would I want to go to school on a Saturday?"
"Because Hailey's coming," I said.
"Okay, fine." Taylor went back to her sketch.
I went back to my room, turned on some music, and started to write.

I woke up with my forehead on my desk a pencil in my hand and my alarm turning on to wake me up.
I got dressed and went to Taylor's room. "Come on. Get up and get ready to go."
"What time is it?" Taylor had a pencil in her hair and her latest artwork was complete. It was Taylor wearing a Hogwarts uniform. The detail was amazing, there was snow on the robes and the crest looked as if it were really sewn on the drawn fabric.
"Seven-thirty. Let's go."
Taylor went to her dresser as I left her room. I went to the kitchen and made two bowls of fruit loops. My bowl was completely gone by the time Taylor came for hers.
"When you're done put your shoes on and let's go," I said pulling on my blue-grey jacket and combat boots.
By the time she was ready to go and we were out the door we had 5 minutes to get Hailey and to get to the school.
"Hailey, time to go," I said banging on her door. "If you don't come out now I'm leaving without you."
She finally opened the door. She pulled her dark hair into its signature sloppy ponytail. Her eyes were naturally royal purple, and today, for the first time since second grade, she didn't have them green. She was the person in our group who shipped every little thing. Like she does for Adi and Andrew.

We walked the three minutes to the school.
Adi was really easy to spot. Her hair being electric blue, and purple hoodie making her pop out against the off-white school.
"Hey," Adi smiled, pulling out her headphones.
"Hey, Adi. Based on the fact that you wearing a tank-top and leggings in the winter, I have to assume that I interrupted your morning run."
She nodded. "Let's head inside and meet the newbies."
We walked to the office and I pulled out my phone.

When Andrew showed up in a neon green shirt, I knew he was trying to show off the weird natural green stripe in his white-blonde hair. He is 5'3 and on the school basketball team.
We went into the office to see two boys that were clearly brothers.
The shorter one noticed us standing there and walked over. "Hey, I'm Connor. What's your name?" He asked to no one in particular, though never once looking away from me.
