September was spent getting costume ideas and finding wands through most of October where we got the stuff. November was adjusting sizes and colors.

It's December now, a week before break.

I set my tray down between Hailey and Adi when Connor poked my shoulder. "Can I talk to you?"

"Uh, yeah sure. What's up?" I said.

"Come on. I need to ask you something alone." He gently took my hand and led me to the 50-yard line on the school field.

Connor flopped to the ground and started to laugh.

"What's up?" I asked sitting down next to him.

He hands me a piece of paper and mumbled, "Travis was right, I am a chicken."

I decided not to comment but I unfolded the paper.

If you're reading this, it means I'm a chicken and can't form words to say this to you. Will you go to the Christmas dance with me? - Connor Stoll

I scribbled a response and handed the paper back to him.

Yes, Connor. - Lex Waters

     "Really?" Connor asked.

"Yeah. I don't have a reason to say no, do I?"

"No, not that I know of."

We sat in silence for a few minutes. "I'd better go back to Adi and Hailey before they send a search party."

     Connor stood, "Let's go."

Ω¤Ω

     "What'd he ask?" Hailey asked.

"He asked if I'd go to the dance with him," I said.

"Your blushing." Adi said holding back a laugh, "Even I don't get that red."

"Oh really. Not even when Andrew asked you to the dance." Hailey joked.

The three of us started laughing.

     "What's Alex doing?" I ask.

Hailey looks first. Then Adi. Then the rest of the lunchroom.

"Connor. Will you go to the dance with me Friday?" Alex asked.

Half the guys in there looked like they wanted to be in his place.

     "No," Connor said.

"What. Why?" Alex looked genuinely surprised.

"I'm going with Lex," Connor said.

The entire lunchroom turns to me.
